12-24mm is very good indeed. Looking at photozone.de maybe better in sharpness and more. But it is not good at 24mm as in 12mm and 18mm. And there are some comments that color is a bit colder.
I also examined the 14mm in photozone -that I better understand them now I think- and I thought 14mm is not perfect either.
I wonder If they worth the money, either one. Of course it is essential for a naturalist, but I live in a metropol working for 5-6 days a week.

Maybe I should reconsider my priorities.

I think the lens I use most should be the best one, don't you think?
And It is about 30-40mm I suppose.

For a walkaround lens,
FA35 is scary sharp but bokeh is not there.
*16-50 , I can't take the risk of a bad copy

Tell me, is it better to make it 31mm + 50mm 1.4 + 100mm macro and to add a DA15 Ltd in time -or 14mm maybe-
or
go for 14mm + 50mm + 100macro then add a DA*30 or FA31mm?

Maybe that was all a deduction to get a 31mm Limited, you tell me ?

BTW a quick question,
is it an overlay in wide range, an 14mm and 16-45 or 16-50.

Thank you.

Go to tamron or sigma.com (can't remember which one) and you will find a photo of a bridge with buildings in the background and a slider that allows you to see exactly what view each zoom lens will provide. Quite nifty.

With my first 300 shots on the K10D (what a miracle of an instrument) I checked my landscapes and was surprised to find most shots between 30 and 55mm.
Wonder what it will show after 5000 shots??

There's also an article in shutterbug re telescopic landscape shots - so difficult to decide.....
good luck

Another vote for the Pentax 12-24

Here is another example of the zoom range of the 12-24
at 12mm

at 24mm

The mistiness you see in the photos is just that, the plant misters were going full blast when I walked into that room.
For more of the shots I took with the 12-24 just after I got it go here:
saltwater : photos : LBA: Pentax DA 12-24mm F4.0- powered by SmugMug
I find it to be a GREAT landscape and architecture lens.

thank you all, I really apreciate it.

After seeing 12-24mm range, I started from scratch.

12-24mm + 31mm + 50mm + 100mm = budget sinks.
There is the 50mm 1.4 in my basket and limits my choices with overlays.
So I ignored that lens.
I need something good around 30-40mm ? hey, that little 40mm is cheap, how it performs?
wow 9.4 points from pentax lens database. Beautiful colors and contrast. Ok then.

70mm Limited, very good. ok

I have already got 100mm macro.

to sum up
DA 40mm , DA 70mm Ltd, DFA 100mm macro ; and I have all the benefits of new tecnology.
Loosing some peak performance but great overall performance?

Now for wide angle.

I think 21mm Ltd and 15mm Ltd when avaible then I'm done with the DA Ltd. series.

Or just take the 12-24mm?

What say you, is it a better serie or I just make it worse?

Not yet.
Most probably at the end of the month.

Some other friends help me to decide by PM.

I think it'll be
15mm(when available) + 21mm +40mm + 70mm + 100mm macro.
maybe 43mm instead of 40mm for a faster lens. or 40mm + FA 50mm or DA* 55mm(when available)

I'd love to chat with you and others as well, when I get my kit.

Great news. I think it's gonna happen
My friend told me he is up to vacation and I can order the items

I will buy through amazon.com or adorama in a day. (any suggestion here?)
Here is my shopping list, any last minute suggestions/opinions are welcome.

- Pentax K20D
- Pentax 21mm F/3.2 AL Limited
- Pentax DA 40mm f/2.8 Ultra Compact
- Pentax 70mm f/2.4 DA Limited
- Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP A/M 1:1 Macro
- Pentax AF 360 FGZ Flash
- Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce
- Gary Fong Puffer Pop Up Flash Diffuser
- Rechargeable Battery D-LI50
- 2x Sandisk 8GB EXTREME III SDHC SD Card

I plan to add 15mm Limited and a decent zoom/prime telephoto later -maybe after a year.
I considered the 55-300mm, it looks OK, but "6" blades holds me back.
It is not easy for me to buy/sell/switch the lenses here, so I must choose only a keeper.

Hi,

This shopping list looks fine, bu I would buy much more memory. I have 1 4GB and 2 8 GB cards for my K10D and on long hollydays I happen to be short (I shoot raw)

Memory is cheap and don't take much space, so buying more memory shouldn't be a problem if not used.

I've chosen sandisk extreme III for speed with RAW.
maybe I should also add a 8/16GB normal speed memory card for extra capacity.

Thank you very much for the advice.

update: could not forgo the speed, made the sandisk memory card x2

That is something I could only sigh if I met one speaking like that at work. Really disorienting

Actually so would I, but I would not be surprised if someone spoke like that to me in Copper Peedy or the Alice among other outback places... even Tassie where in some parts last time there I thought I was not in Australia... it was like speaking to Liverpudlians
