By the charts, it's not quite as sharp at f/2.8 as f/4, but it's still pretty good as far as I'm concerned. An example is below, the crop is close to full size. Shot in raw, lightrooms default processing applied. The DoF is tiny at 2.8 of course, but there's enough scale detail along the black vein to keep me happy considering on my 96dpi monitor this viewing size would correspond to a print roughly 4 feet across.
DoF is usually more of a concern than an inherent lack of sharpness wide open
.
The black/white edges are by far not my worst example of CA, but it's typical of the type I'll run into unless I go looking for it (e.g. a cat's white whiskers in sunlight on a dark background).
