So im going to Cuba and I need a nice lens to replace my old 18-55,
Right now I have a K-50 that Im going to use on the trip and later on I will buy the K-1. How good is that lens with aps-c bodies?

Just as good as it is with the K-1. But of course not very wide on APS-C. If you do get it I would take the 18-55 along just for the 18-23 range.

You know what I would do? Get a new Tamron 28-75 instead, and find an SMC DA 15. Combined you should spend less than buying the 24-70, and have a really versatile kit. You would lose weather resistance but I could probably deal with that.

My 2 cents.

I replaced my 18-55 WR with a Pentax 16-85 a few months ago and wish I'd done it years ago. Very nice lens and a lot cheaper and lighter than the 24-70 full frame... it's worth a look.

My traveling companion was (for years, you can get one for under $200 used ) Sigma DC 17-70 2.8-4.5 Macro, and now is Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 Contemporary HSM Macro.
Perfect range for traveling. You will need fast 17mm for narrow streets and inside the churches.

I looked at a number of contenders to replace my dead DA 17-70 for my K-3. This list included DFA 28-105, DFA 24-70, Sigma 17-70 C, Sigma 17-50 f2.8, DA 18-135 and DA 16-85. I even put a number of posts looking for advice in this forum. The most recommended lens for me was the DA 16-85 and I am very glad I made it my choice. The concern with the DFA versions was the lack of wide angle on crop bodies. I do not have plans to upgrade to FF.

In term of quality, the 24-70 would be superb on the K50, of course, as to be expected from a pro-level lens. You'd get much more possibilities in term of bokeh and in term of low light possibilities. The lens is entirely another league. Of course it would not work as great as on K1, but that no APSC body would allows that.

But to be honest, on APSC, the 24-70 cover a quite different range than the 18-55. The 24-70 on APSC would be quire interresting for event and portraiture or for weddings. The f/2.8 apperture is quite interresting for its ability to isolate the subject and for low light shots.

The 18-55 has quite different aim. Aside from being the budget lens, it is best suited for landscape, building and exterior shot in daylight. If you take the 24-70 and not the 18-55 to the trip you may find yourself disapointing by the narrow framing you'll get out of the 24-70...

And, ah yes... Remember that the 24-70 is like more than 10 time more expensive, much bigger and heavier. For everybody around you'll be the paparazi. And in particular if you don't master it already and all, friends and familly will get quite upset if they are not passionate photographers themselves.

In other terms, if possible, I'd wait until you can also get the K1 before getting the 24-70 and I'd think twice too before commiting to a 10 time more expensive system and few time bigger/heavier system. It would maybe make more sense to play arround with something like a K3 or KP + 17-70 f/2.8 from sigma and maybe a 55-300 for some time and get 90% of what a K1 + 24-70 would get you for less than half the price and see in 2-3 years if you wish for even bigger/heavier.

The 24-70 accompanied by say, the DA15, would be a great combination, Kevin.

If you were deliberately restricting yourself to one lens, the 16-85 would be a natural.

Honestly, I don't think it make sense to buy a DA15 to justify a 24-70 on APSC while waiting for a K1. The DA15 will find no that much use on the K1, in particular when one has a 24-70.

There no great solution to me that involve lenses compatible with K1 and well adapted to replace a transtandard on APSC. That's why there dedicated transtandard zoom on APSC to begin with.

I use the 24-70 on my k3 for portrait and for landscape, I really don't miss the 18-23 range. Of course IMHO

Well, if I didn't already have one, I wouldn't buy it, Nicolas!

Whatever UWA Kevin has, he will need to keep using for now because 24-70 just doesn't cover that range.

It works well. I bought the DFA 24-70 when it was released, what, six months before the K-1 came out? It is a good lens. There is less vignetting on APS-C and it has nice sharpness. I guess the biggest question is just if that set of focal lengths will work for a travel lens for you. It isn't very wide on APS-C and so if you are used to a walk around lens that goes 16-18mm on the wide end, that could feel limiting.

Good luck on your trip.
