Lens Cap Database?

Is there any place where I can get information on Pentax lens caps by series? I'm curious to find out if my lenses Taks, K, M, A. F, and FA series lenses have their original caps. Thanks in advance for any help!

I haven’t actually seen a database, but KEH lists their lens caps by the series they were issued with. One issue will be specialty lenses such as the K15, K17FE, K400, K500 and K1000 that came with Takumar style metal lens caps and the long F and FA lenses that came with leatherette slip-on covers. Then there is the change for K lenses from all black to black and white in 1977 when M lenses were introduced (the markings on the aperture ring were changed to match the new M nomenclature, so you can distinguish the versions).

Nothing is universal at Pentax.

Not in chronological order but almost all the variants are covered. The plan eventually is to order them chronologically but I doubt it will ever get done.

Google Translate

Unfortunately the sales brochures and user manuals rarely if ever show the lens caps.

I can say the type 9 came with the SMC PENTAX-A 50mm f1.4 and the body cap on the Progam Plus was Type 5. Bought new. The 50mm had a black press on rear cap not pictured in the collection.

Awesome find! Wish I could read it. Makes me think I should catalog my stuff.

For AF-Lenses (F&FA since 1987) it is easy to categorize:
11 - F, F*, FA, FA*
12 - FA 77 Limited
13 - FA 31&43 Limited
16 - DA, DA*, D FA, D FA*

Except the early FA Limiteds, released in silver, had ‘Pentax’ painted in black. The caps weren’t embossed.

11s are my favorite. Thick, sturdy, grip like the dickens, no paint on the lettering to wear off. I replace most of my caps with these when I can get 'em and save the originals.

11s are the most unhandy caps.
Can't be attached or removed with hood attached in working position, don't have finger holes for grip.

I have no problems with hoods attached. I can even use 11s with a ring flash installed which has even less space than any lens hood.

Depends on your fingers I guess.

Agree.
However, my FA* 80-200/2.8 came with type 10.

All my M and A lenses that I purchased between 1981 and 1984 in Europe came with tpye 9.
A replacment cap that I purchased in the early 80ies was type 8. The same applies to a used M 40/2.8 that I bought back then, So I assume, that 8 was quite common in the late 70ies and got replaced by type 9.

Type 7 frequently can be seen on lenses sold in Japan, even my used FA 80-320 from Japan had such a cap on it.

To sum it up:
7 - Japan only (?)
8 - K, M (?)
9 - M, A
10 - FA* (?)
11 - F, F*, FA, FA*
12 - FA 77 Limited
13 - FA 31&43 Limited
16 - DA, DA*, D FA, D FA*

Cap number 7 is the "all black" K Series cap (52mm, 58mm, 67mm & 77mm) and number 8 is the early "M" Series cap before they dropped the word "Asahi".
