Poll: Who will buy the new DFA*50mm on release?

I am curious who is actually considering a purchase of the new DFA*50mm lens? For purposes of the poll answer yes if you are planning on buying it either at release or eventually, no if you have no plans to buy it at this time.

no to plans, yes to aspirations - there are factors like cost and user reviews that will influence the decision so it's not a simple yes, at any rate - but I know that if it's what I expect I will be tempted - maybe beyond reason, maybe not

Unlikely. Now if it had been a D-FA 24mm, then yes please, provided it wasn't too fast=large

Sorry, no wishy washy answers accepted in this poll. Yes I am going to get it, No I am not at this time. So if you are waiting for reviews, pricing and inspiration then that is a NO. You can also assume that the quality will be excellent and the price will be high. No one is asking you to put down money. Just answer honestly if you are planning on getting it or not.

I answered no because I rarely use the 50mm focal length. I tend to go much wider (35mm or below) or longer. Should I need 50mm, my FA 43mm Limited will do just fine.

You need a "I don't know - I will wait and see" category. For me it will depend on how good it is (reviews) and what the price eventually settles down to. Would be a while before I had the budget anyway.

No for me as well. I have at least six 50mm lenses, including two in the F series. Plus a lot of zooms that cover that range. So for me there is no attraction, no matter how good it is.

Nope. No wishy washy answers. If you are waiting for pricing and reviews then that is a NO. If you plan to buy it at release or any time thereafter that is a YES.

For what it's worth, I plan to evaluate the lens with consideration to buy. but I will want to fire a few test shots before I pull the trigger.

Main criteria will be autofocus performance, weight, feel, price, and of course optical quality... especially wide open.

If I stay with the Pentax system then I will buy this lens because it would be nice/essential to have a modern * lens that I can use on the K1 in an everyday sense. Alternatively wait for the 85 because I'm mainly after a portrait lens.

I'll NEVER buy the new Pentax 50mm f/1.4 lens.

I only shoot premium manual focus lenses. I've already found an outstanding 50mm MF lens (Zeiss Milvus 50/1.4) that exceeds my needs. I have zero interest in the upcoming Pentax 50mm lens.

Same holds for the upcoming Pentax 85mm prime lens. I've already got the Zeiss Milvus 85/1.4 . It too more than meets my current (and forseeable) needs too.

Had these two Pentax primes been available when the K1 came out, I'm sure I'd have bought both of them. However, in the meantime, I've discovered the wonderful Zeiss prime lenses (especially the Milvus ZF line) and am more than happy with them.

While I just love my two Pentax K1's, I feel Pentax was far too late out of the chute with their new prime lenses. I was not about to "thread water" for 2 or 3 years after purchasing my K1's while Pentax delayed the release of their new primes.

Nope, not me. Not right away nor soon after considering it will be released in the Spring of 2018.

Now, if the question was would I buy it on sale during a Black Friday event or something like that ...

No, I'm afraid I don't have any such plans whatsoever.

In my situation, it's actually a no-brainer:
  • As an APS-C K-3 shooter, I'm well served by my DA50, which never ceases to amaze me with its second-to-none bang for the euro in the current line-up.
  • I happen to like small yet capable lenses, and if I was shopping for another still affordable portrait option, I would go for the HD70 without hesitation.
  • Either the HD70 or the DFA100 Macro WR, of which the latter could also double as a viable portrait lens, apart from its amazing macro capabilities.
  • As far as the new designs are concerned, I'm much more tempted by the upcoming DA11-18, as it looks like a wonderful one-does-it-all wideangle option.

To be honest, I thought the phrasing of the question opened up that possibility

I will get it sometime next year, unless reviews are terrible Probably from my next tax return, or sooner if I find it irresistible
