DA 40 Ltd. Lens Hood

Hi all,

I just picked up a copy of the DA 40 2.8 ltd. Excited to start trying it out, and wondering if there's ever a reason to remove the hood. Given the lens' modest size, even with the hood attached, I'm hoping I can just leave it on all the time.

Thanks for your help.

the hood is great - the screw-in lens caps is a pain and easily lost...

when my DA40 is mounted, I remove the hood/cap and screw in a metal hood with a generic pinch cap...

Nope, you can keep it on always. The only reason to remove it would be to use filters or a regular cap, if you ever got tired of the screw-in cap.

Get a Fujifilm film canister the clear ones. Use the lid as your cap.

I use this cap instead of native screw-in cap:

Leave the hood on. No problem. I have had the screw on cap for many years and never lost it. Just unscrew it when you go out and put it back when finished.

I love it as it is. Very reassuring, like a bomb shelter. You can even add a filter to the inside of the hood!

As a hood it does such a good job of protecting the lens when i use it I have no issues leaving the screw cap off for a while.

I just leave mine on all of the time. As others have said, be careful with the little screw off cap. Its easy to drop it and lose it.

Not so useful with a CPL, though!
