Good news indeed. Hope the HSM speeds things up a bit.

just out of idle curiousity, what the advantage of the sigma 50-150 over the pentax 50-135 ? beyond 15mm on the long end?

I can see any advantages to buying the Sigma over the Pentax.....unless the price point is substantially less. The Sigma has the extra 15mm on the long end. It also weighs more, is probably of lesser build quality, and with Sigma sample variation could come into play.

It definitely seems like a lens I'd be interested in. I fared pretty well so far with Sigma lenses. I'm dead set of getting the 50-135 next, but I'll wait to see what the street price is on this one. It maybe worth looking into.

Sigma uses real ring type HSM which should help it to focus faster

However, it won't have any weather sealing and may well suffer the usual problem Sigma lenses have of copious (i.e. more than normal) amounts of internal dust over time, IMX.

all the sigma lenses i have come in contact with have been superb

however they are a tad bulky/heavy, i dont know what to attribute that to but thats how things are

aside from a lack of weather sealing, if it is 200 or so dollars less than the pentax unit, then it would be a very good buy, i do not see it being of bad quality, at all.

The 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II does sound interesting, but I'm waiting to see how the new Tamron fairs in the Pentax mount. The optics are meant to be great and it has a better macro ratio than the Sigma - we'll see.

you are probably talking about FF lenses from Sigma... 50-150 is "DC" and has filter size = 67mm, not bad size wise... but certainly Sigma tends to make 'em big.
