I have both the 35 and 40 limiteds and TBH the 40mm only gets use for travel in order to have a normal-ish prime, because it's much smaller and lighter than the 35mm. The 35mm beats it every time in terms of image quality (though the 40mm is no slouch).

Is it just me, but I find fast lenses tricky in the beginning.
A consumer zoom (like the kit lens or the F35-70) is easy, just point and shoot...
The M85/2 was especially difficult.

Now my troubles seem to be more camera setting related...

so far, it's a stunner and has essentially erased my lust for the HD 20-40 zoom....
I also think about buying the DA35 Macro ltd. especially for use on the KP. On trips I‘d have a very good „normal“ FOV plus macro. In addition a DA21 would be nice. Together with DA15 and DA55-300PLM it‘d build a wonderful travel kit.

If the Limited Series would be redesigned with PLM motors it would be a no brainer for me. I‘d instantly buy them and think others would do too. I simply don‘t like the sound of screwdrive. This was the reason why I never purchased a DA55-300 - I tested such on street in front of a photo store. The moment the DA55-300PLM came to market I bought it and I‘m very happy with it. The DFA100WR I mostly focus manually so the screwdrive is not that big issue in this case.

Hi Allen. Sandy Van Pelt here.

The FA31's magic is less obvious on crop, but it's still there. Embrace its wide open rendering and get close to your subject.

The DA35 is a fantastically sharp and versatile optic, but if you have the DA40 I wouldn't necessarily bother, especially if you have the brilliant DFA100WR for macro stuff.

I took both the DA35 and FA31 (crazy I know) on a trip to Italy last year, and the former is the only lens I didn't use. The others (10-17, 21, 31, 43, 55, 77, 55-300) got a hammering.

bravo on the new lens - not sure why buying used is "cheating", however...

pretty much all of my lenses have come to me that way...

buying " experienced " lenses is definitely not cheating

[ a large number of the lenses ( all but 2 ) that I own were a result of finding such lenses at very nice prices. ]

the " cheating " if it occurs would be taking advantage of the 14 day no question asked return policy if I don't like the lens

chances are very good that no such return will occur

(still not cheating if you find something not to your liking)

I agree, it is an option offered by that seller that you actually pay for when you buy the lens from them

[ although many purchasers may not consider that fact ]

the " " was meant to indicate that it wasn't really cheating

Is that lust still erased?

I went in the opposite direction.

Using the (old version) DA 35 Ltd as my "standard" lens (and loving its "ominous" rendering),
I found the need for a K 24/2.8 to fill the gap between the 35mm and 15mm limiteds.

But as soon as the DA 20 - 40 became available,
I ponied up for it, and never looked back.

for the 20-40 zoom specifically, yes - I can't think of any reason to own it other than just out of curiosity....

for lenses in general, no - I'm still watching for anything interesting that may stumble in front of me...

seems to me, if I recall correctly, I was warned about getting a " limited " lens

well

I now have the SMC Pentax-DA 21mm F3.2 Limited with the Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Macro Limited scheduled to arrive tomorrow

am I truly doomed in any way?

Quite the opposite. Both are lovely, but with the DA21 in particular you are re-born

...you won't want to use anything else. AMAZING optic, and man did they NAIL that focal length. Pretty much perfect.

My review and pics here:

Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited samples - Page 17 - PentaxForums.com

Good luck with it! Happy shooting!

Cheers,
Cameron
