I have owned the DA 15mm (three times, long story), DA 21mm, the FA 31mm...and every lens in that group is a magic lens. I only sold off the DA 21mm because I went to full frame...but replaced it with a FA 31mm...

here is an article discussing how DA lenses work on the full frame sensor of the K 1 and K 1 II

QuoteQuote:
Evaluation Criteria
We have evaluated the performance at select F-stop/focal length combinations per the following scale:

A: Full coverage
B: Full coverage, but with slightly soft corners
C: With reservations. Heavy vignetting and/or soft corners
D: With reservations. Very soft corners and vignetting
F: Fail, no coverage (black corners)
We used these F-stops: WO (wide open), F5.6, and F11. We also used three focus setting at each focal length and aperture: near, moderate, and far. The evaluation is thus condences into a single rating that accounts for all focus settings
.

Hi Bdery

Yes and my comment is an answer to a different thread.
Allen started the 40mm plus 43 mm thread the same day but had a similar post I thought I was answering.
These contests mess with your brain ,I think in a good way

Interesting that Ikenaga-san regards the 20-40 as a variable prime; most of us users agree with him!

Really great thread everyone!
I have the SMC DA 15mm, the HD 35mm Macro which stayed on my
Camera for a long time. Over the last 6 months, I have acquired an
experienced DA*55mm quickly followed by a Silver FA 77mm.
The FA 77mm is everything everyone has said about it, truly magical.
I hope someday to add the DA 21mm. Will have to decide SMC or HD.

Yes I am aware of that article. I do not shoot a lot of situations where there would be an opportunity
for a starburst (I have a smc 15mm) so maybe the HD 21mm would get the nod. However I lack the funds to purchase
at the moment. So I will need to be patient

absolutely nothing wrong with that plan

Good luck with your silver 77. We have one too, and my wife in fact calls it our magic lens!

Thank You. Yes it is. Late this summer I purchased an experienced one,
near mint from Japan, for a good price. It hasn't left my KP yet.

Having spent quite a bit of time on AF fine adjustment activities recently, I noticed (not for the first time, I might add) that my HD DA40 f/2.8 Limited is less consistent in its focusing accuracy than some of my other lenses. In general use, it's absolutely fine - but at very close range, wide open, I find it can be a little inconsistent... just ever-so-slightly off, on occasion. It's nothing to do with my AF adjustments, as the same behaviour is noted in both viewfinder and live view focusing.

I did a little research and it seems this has been discovered before with this specific lens. One suggestion was that it might be caused by wear and tear, but I bought my copy new and it really hasn't been used much, as I tend to prefer a slightly wider or narrower field of view.

It's not a big issue, as it really only shows up at very close range when shooting at f/2.8. I'm not sure how common this is... but it's worth bearing in mind for those who are fussy about such things.
