If you're interested in shooting birds and wildlife, also, I'd go for the 300/4. I prefer primes and I love the DA* 300/4, I don't think you'd be disappointed with it. On the other hand I don't shoot much sports.
The DA* 200/2.8 must be a heck of a lens from all the comments on it but I needed more reach and I have nothing but praise for the DA* 300/4, it was well worth the money for me. Now, if only they'd release the new converter......

It looks as if you are uncertain on the use of the lens, and you certainly don't want to spend that much on something you may not use as much as you thought. I recommend you give the 18-250 a try. It is very versatile, and reasonable in price.

The DA*300 is one great lens.

Buy it from tekade.de. This seller is as close as a seller can be to Pentax Europe. And its pricing is great. Raimund (the owner of tekade.de) even organized a DA*300 sent to me for testing directly from the HQ
