DFA*50 1.4 price

Without the desire to talk about size and weight, my humble opinion that fifteen hundred bucks is ridiculous for 50mm f/1.4 prime but I would like to hear other reasonable opinions.

Btw DFA*50 is probably waiting for K-1 II announcement because price will look more reasonable in compare to body price.

What's the point of pure speculation on something there might be more information probably soon? Justv to garnish the self assumed error with some potential grief and whining? The internet sometimes is a weird place...

I agree with @MMVIII - the price and release date for this lens is pure speculation at present. Both aspects have been discussed in full in other threads. Now, it's just a waiting game.

That aside, the price of any lens is justifiable (or not) by optical performance and build quality. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. The equivalent lens in Sony's line-up, for example, might be the FE 50mm f1.4 ZA PlanarT*, which - surprise, surprise - is in the same sort of price bracket.

If you want a cheap, fast and decent 50mm f/1.4, there's the FA50 f/1.4. If you want something with a whole different level of optical and build quality, you're going to have to pay big for it.

How much would you pay for a lens that is better than the 31ltd?

To photographer in another system how much would a Ziess Otus with AF and stabilisation be worth?

I personally donít see the value in a big heavy expensive format like the FF K1 system because Iím happy with my K3, but i dont begrudge the numerous people who do desire a higher level IQ. The DFA*50 is for them.

Ridiculous to you, a bargain to others. All depends on your shooting style, needs and financial situation.

One would wonder about the efficacy of a stabilized 50mm 1.4 lens on a Pentax body. Likewise with having DC, SDM, etc. Weather sealing would seem to make sense though. The price will be what the market will bear. Expensive does not always equal quality. The size and weight difference between an FA 50 1.4 and a DFA* 50mm 1.4 might be the deciding factor for some.

If it works as well in tandem with the in-body stabilisation, it could be quite powerful... I've heard other of other systems combining both lens and body stabilisation allowing some spectacularly slow shutter speeds. For certain types of shot in low lighting, that might be interesting...

By Stabilised Iím referring to IBIS, not lens stabilisation. The main competitors for K1 are Canon and Nikon who both lack any form of stabilisation for a fast normal prime. Their top lenses, the 50/1.2L and 58/1.4 are not in the same sharpness ballpark as modern lenses either.

The only other system with the option is Sony, and their 50/1.4 is $1500.

For pentax FF you have Fa50/1.4, 43ldt, 55/1.4 and the new DFA*. You are not being jawboned into buying an expensive lens by any means.

The DFA*50 should be viewed as a cheap mini medium format lens!

I think it might cost more than the Sigma 50mm art, but less than the most expensive 50mm lens in the Nikon lineup. But this is the fist massive, highly corrected prime that Pentax has made for digital FF, so it might surprise us. It definitely won't be as affordable as DA 50mm f1.8 or FA 50mm f1.4. It will cost more than DA*55mm.

Price will be $1499, street price $1399 and drop to $1199 within the next two years. +/-10%.
The marked will not allow for a higher price and Pentax will not settle for less. Price was most likely a major spec during development.
Performance is what is of interest as well as delivery date.
