  • I've got a Super Program and it does not work properly with model DA lenses, it can't control the aperture.
  • So if I want a lens to work with both film and digital with weather sealing is impossible, the reason for this is to save cost.
  • I believe Nikon/Canon top of the line film cameras are also weather sealed, but they have a lot more of lenses to use, Pentax is quite limited even 3rd party ones.
Some buttons and parts could be sealed, but the lens mount isn't. Maybe to ensure a longer life and usability of the camera body.
If you work with open aperture, there's no deed to control the aperture.
Using film to save cost doesn't make sense. Also all weather sealed lenses work on Pentax K-mount film bodies.
You never can be sure about canon bodies which maybe could be sealed and how good. Also even some L-lenses aren't good sealed. Pentax is the only one besides Olympus who has a special designation for lenses with weather sealings. And Pentax has far the most and cheapest sealed lenses and bodies on the market.

The LX definitely will not work with DA or DFA series lenses.
They share the same mount, so all DA and D FA lenses are compatible with the LX. Only some functions of the lenses and camera aren't working.

The list of functions that will not work* is short and runs like this:
  • AF (duh)
  • Any exposure that requires other than minimum aperture
The LX is not capable of automated aperture control by the body, hence the lens will ALWAYS stop down to minimum aperture for all exposures. I would consider the pairing of an LX** with lenses lacking an aperture ring as basically unusable.

Steve

* With the exception of the non-WR D FA 100mm Macro, which has an aperture ring.
** Ditto for all Pentax K-mount bodies not capable of automated aperture control
