When 120-400mmf2.8 comes out

I've been looking for a long telephoto for a while now and was going to get the 70-200mm with teleconverter, but I needed the lens in July and it wasn't out yet even though they said it would be out in spring, so I got the Pentax DA* 50-135 and it's a great lens but has little range. Now I've decided to get the new Sigma 120-400mm f4.5-5.6 lens does anyone know when it'll be out for Pentax? I know its already out for Cannon and Nikon.

Can't answer your question regarding the Pentax version, but I can say that I just spent the weekend camping with my brother-in-law and his brand-new Sigma 120-400 on his D80. Nice....

I honestly wish Sigma was more consistent about releasing their glass for the Pentax mount. Some lenses are immediately available in the Pentax mount, others become available later, and still other Sigma lenses NEVER make it to the Pentax mount.

It wouldn't bother me as much if it wasn't for the fact that it seems like 50% of the Sigma lenses I want aren't available for the Pentax mount. It's "almost" enough to make me buy a cheap Canon or Nikon body just so I can have access to the glass I want.

Almost.

I agree with JJJPhoto. I mean what's up with not releasing the 80-400mm EX - I'd LOVE that lens! Instead they pump out a 120-400mm which probably won't be much better quality than the 135-400mm... :-(

If you absolutely want Sigma glass that you can't get in Pentax mount it might be worth while to look into their bodies.
They're dirt cheap right now, and really compliment Pentax
Plus they release lenses for them the same time as the Big 2.

I bought a virtually new Sigma DG APO 135-400mm from Ebay for $400 a month ago for that very reason.

It's actually not a bad lens, I took these with it a couple of weeks ago.

I must admit though that I will probably be getting either the Tamron or Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 and a teleconverter once released.

Actually, Pop Photo has a review of the Sigma 120-400mm and it seems a lot better than the 135-400mm version! Judging by the number of elements, it looks like a signigicant optical redesign. Could be very interesting!
