200mm f2?

looking around, i cant seem to find any lens that fits the bill aside from the canon 200 f2. the lens is responsible for some of my favorite portraits by other photographers.
my tamron 70-200 comes close, but the 2.8 is not enough to really blur out the background.

maybe i'm over looking another lens that may exist out there?

I don't think there's such a lens for Pentax. These are fairly close though:

SMC Pentax-A* 135mm F1.8 Reviews - A Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

Nikon and Canon are the sole players in that space.

That Canon lens is distinctive. It's a dream lens for portraits (background blur) and astrophotography (faster exposures at night).

Do you realize it's $5700? If you can justify that price to yourself, the cost of a Canon body to go with the lens is like buying an extra accessory

Wow, I'd love a 200 f2 lens, alas I won't ever have one without changing systems and I've no plans to do that.

I really like what the Nikon version has created here:

I guess the photographer was a fair way off to get the subjects in the middle of the bokeh and without that 200mm FL it's going to be hard to achieve this look.

I do think that if you plan on using a Pentax camera and really want to blur the background that you consider one of the ZF2 135mm f2 lenses with a Leitax adaptor to K mount.

It has the ability to isolate subjects with an OOF background without the need to be so far away from your subjects.

Of course the distance between the photographer, the subjects, the background, the FL and aperture all play a part in what you're looking for but if you're okay with manual focus this and similar lenses could be a good option to consider.

135mm f/1.8 with 1.4x TC maybe?
That would give us 189 mm f/2.5.

By the way the 135mm f/2 by Samyang is a nice and very sharp lens (probably one of the sharpest lenses in my collection).

It seems like a lovely lens, but but the difference in depth of field between f2.8 and f2 can be achieved by taking a couple of steps closer to your subject.

For Portraits which tend to be rather static (and above are some samples) you just need to stitch 2/3 images from your cheap tamron and get the exact same result.

Or you use software to add a little extra blur.

Both options considerably cheaper.

there are cheeper options. The name is DIY lens . One of them is CZJ Kipronar 2.1/200 - Petzval type, swirly bokeh, weight about 2 kg. Look here for pictures. It is for sale from my friend.

Carl Zeiss Jena Proj. Objektiv 2,1/200 M42 - Skelbiu.lt

Another option - rare - ROW or CZJ Visionar 1.9/200 - aplanatic anastigmat cinema projector lens (no swirly bokeh). Weight about 3,5? kg. I know one that is adapted to Pentax 645 format.
You can contact this photographer for more info

Visionar 1.9/200.
That thing looks a tad front heavy! And anything that makes a 645 look compact is quite impressive

Huge front element and weight of the lens makes tripod obligatory. That is the price you pay for portrait range telefoto lens with f1.9.
I personally prefer the range 165-180mm. E.g. visionar 168 f1.9 can be still manipulated without tripod. But Bausch&Lomb 178/1.9 - not. Anyway I use both, because background blur is very pleasant
