Yes that is exactly what it means. I started with the 15, then the 70 then I needed the 21 and having the 3 limited I replaced my Da 35 2.4 with the 40 limited. It does not matter it which order you buy them but buy them you must.

Well, that's the law!

One great thing about the DA 15mm Limited is its very compact size. it matches up well with a number of combos, and it can fit into the front accessory pocket of my belt/shoulder camera holster! So I can have a zoom lens on-camera, or the DA 21mm LTD, with no carrying inconvenience for having the DA 15mm LTD along as well.

If you read every post, you need the 15/21/35/70. At that point the 40 is good enough to add in as a one-lens option for casual shooting. Of course you’ll want the 20-40 in reserve for those times that one lens isn’t enough but you don’t want to carry a bag. And then SMC is better than HD for starbursts, but the HD Limiteds have rounded blades, so you’ll need both coating formulas for the 15 and 21. At that point, WTH, the used SMC lenses are so inexpensive, just get two complete sets.

Silver and Black.

The real story is the 21/40/70 kit covers most prime lens needs. The 15/4 is really a specialty lens that you’ll want if you’ll use it. Likewise the 35 Macro is a special use lens that punches above its weight. It isn’t so much what you ‘need’ as whether your goals require the properties of the 15 AND the 21.

I love the 15/4 but already have the HD 20-40 so the DA 21 seems a bit redundant, but I am impressed by what I see posted here image wise. I have an SMC version and see no need for an HD version of the 15. And the 70 is nice but I have the FA 77 so don't really see the need for that one either.

Why do you say that, Norm? Why not give it a review in the lens review section?

Yes, unless you already have something good that is wider than 21. I could not imagine having a lens set with 21 as my widest. I'd be limited is a large way. The question is....how wide do you need to go? Would the 15 be enough? It would be for me, but everyone's needs and wants vary.

Owning a DA21 by no means gets you out of the need for a DA15.

Resistance is useless.

A few Sigma 8-16 examples....

Checkout the low distortion of this horizon, and that's at 8mm.

I used to have a 15mm LTD and I can honestly say that it's very much a specialty tool, but for what it does, it's FANTASTIC.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I can understand now why you like the lens so much.

I have chosen the triad 15mm, 35mm, 70mm in APS equivalent to about 23,53,107, so I find them suitable for many occasions and very light weight. It depends on subjective requirements.

Below are the reviews of all four,

Pentax SMC-DA 15mm f/4 AL ED Limited - Review / Test Report

Pentax SMC-DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited - Review / Test Report

Pentax SMC DA 35mm f/2.8 Limited macro - Review / Test Report

Pentax SMC DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited - Review / Lab Test

I had the Sigma 8-16 is a good optic, but you can't use filters, that's why I sold it.

The Sigma 8-16 is a fine lens. I sold mine because the size seemed at odds with my goals for APS-C gear, but it gave me some memorable images despite their voracious need for aggressive processing.

It can change an ordinary view into something extraordinary.

DA★ 11-18mm is ..... coming. Not sure when but that is another option to consider. I might get that one and sale both 15 and 21... may be keep 21, it so small.

if you only look at prime, I think 15 is good. I like the SMC version more... or may be stitch 2 images of da21 together? I often go out with 21 only and sometime I have to stitch 2 - 3 images from the 21.
