FYI: My tests with the Pentax 1.4X TC on a DA 300mm lens indicate: 1) there is essentially no detectable loss of IQ centrally (but peripherally there may be); 2) IQ of the combination is essentially indistinguishable (at the center) from images taken with the 150~450mm @ the same subject distance and aperture.
