24mm for K1

Folks,
I currently shoot with a K-1 and the three Limited Primes. I would like something a little wider the my 31. I appears it will end up being a third partly lens, which I have no experience with. What are your suggestions?
Thank you,
Terry

FA* 24mm, it's relative cheap (especially in comparision to the FA 20mm), offers lens correction profile inside the camera and good image quality.

Howdy,
I really like shooting my Pentax FA*24mm lens with the K-1.
I also really like that the Pentax FA*24mm is compatible with all my Pentax Film Cameras dating back to 1976

The DFA 24-70 has 24mm, and... you get 25mm,26mm,27mm,28mm..67mm,68,mm,69mm,70mm free or charge.

I only had the FA24 on a K-3II but my impressions were:

Plus
Sharp in the centre wide open (well mine was)
Good size/weight/speed combination
Excellent flare resistance
Sunstars
Good contrast, even into bright light/wide open

Cons
Bokeh is OK, smoother than the FA43.
Finish scratches very easily
Corners, even on APS-C did not catch up till f5.6 at least. For landscape, f8 or better.
C/A although as mentioned Lightroom can fix easily

I'd love to have another on my K-1.

Well sure, I have tried it. I have severe back issues and couldn't handle the weight. Nice lens, though.

I have the Sigma 24mm f1.8, Terry, which has nice rendering.

But I also have several smallish zooms that do very well at that focal length, including the DA12-24 (works from 18mm on), FA20-35 and Sigma 12-24.

If you don’t mind manual focus the Samyang 24mm F1.4 could be a contender. I use it for landscapes so I am kind of hovering between infinity and hyperfocal and don’t need autofocus. If you check some of my recent photo threads you can get a feel for what this lens is capable of on a K-1. At least in my hands. Since the new Pentax wide angle prime lens is not on the market yet this lens convinced me to buy the K-1 anyway.

The manual focus Pentax A 20mm seems to be as good as the FA 20mm.

I really like that idea. So, I can use a DA lens? I understand the math for crop vs. full frame. I just thought there were other reasons. So then I could just use the DA 15? I would love that.

No, the DA15 doesn't cover the full frame the way the DA12-24 does after 17mm, Terry, sad to say.

If you *do* want ultra wide angle, you don't have to stump up for the superb DFA15-30.

The Samyang 14mm and in particular the Irix 15mm (WR!!) are great value if you don't mind manual focus.

I absolutely love the 15-30, I had it, and it was a big no, for my back. But, I still can use the DA 12-24. That's a nice looking little lens. Kinda slow, but should work nicely. Gives me the wide side of 24, too. I really hate having to plan my lens kit around my back problems. It's a first, for me. When I bought the K-1, I had the 24-70 and 15-30 with it. Now it''s the Limiteds only, and I'm thankful for them. Thanks, Mr Clackers.

It is smaller, and f4 of course. Sharpness is good, and it takes 77mm screw in filters.

I was talking to a forum member who went to several continents hiking with the K-1, DA12-24, DFA28-105 and 50mm macro.

Do you like your Sigma 24? I love fast lenses. I like to play with shallow dof. I have never had one of their lenses, but I know they've been around for ever. I appreciate the fact that they have a Pentax mount. If it's fast and sharp, that might be my best bet.

I do like it, Terry. I prefer to take zooms, but it has a pseudo macro capability and f1.8 means it's ideal for night shooting.
