Would be it overkill...

...to own both the DA 40 and FA 43 limiteds? I know there has been many 40/43 threads, and I'm sure I would be happy with either. But does anyone own and intend on keeping both? Perhaps the fact that they are limiteds would help them retain their value years down the road.

Your thoughts?

i see you also have FA 50, but you don't have any zoom to cover those FL wouldn't it be better to get the DA*16-50? unless you prefer primes...or possible QC problem of 16-50...idk 40/43 seem quite close in length to get both...y don't you just get one and add a 70/77...

Not silly at all! Have shot both and want both. Their images look totally different. Benjikan actually has and uses both depending on what he wishes to portray. I will probably buy both. I missed the first two pancakes years ago (Pentax and Olympus). Now that there is a third one will get it.
thanks

After owning both lenses, my suggestion is: dump the DA40, keep the FA43.

I guess the main thing that I really like about the DA 40 is the pancake size. I see myself using it at parties (not at night) or taking it around everyday.

Everything else, I'd rather take the 43. I definitely could use the extra speed and it just looks so well made...

For candids at parties you'd do better with a wider lens, possibly a zoom with wide angle of 18mm or so in the range. Primes; 21mm, 24mm, 28mm.

The Sigma 17-70 is bolted onto my camera most of the time. A 28-105 f/3.2 is a fine quality Pentax lens that might suit you well too.

When more control over the subjects & shooting conditions is available, the primes come out.

I had both 40 and 43, and also the DA35 Macro. I was intent on keeping both 40 and 43. I did sell the 40, but not because I had the 43, but because I got the 16-50... Had I not gotten the 16-50 as a walk-around, I'd probably kept the 40.

I say if you can afford them, get them. Just leave some for the rest of us!

I have thought about the 16-50 and also considered the 16-45. I do prefer primes but also want a zoom for convenience (which the 16-45 could fill). I really think it's just the lure of the limiteds...
