You should stop in at our place on your way to Algonquin so I can play with your new lens.
It's pretty uninviting at the moment but the park is saying it will open up on May 3rd. Personally, I'm not so sure, they may be being optimistic. They've set dates and cancelled before.

Sorry, I missed your thread. You didn't get a response from an 18-135 user. 16-85 users never do it justice. It tends to be preferred by outdoorsy active types. mattb123 takes his skiing and has published many images taken with it. Mine has probably been to Algonquin Park 100 times. But since you got the 16-85 and you have 14mm covered, your next lens should be the DA*60-250. That's a lights out combination. The 16-85 and 18-135 are both pretty good pseudo macros, but I like to take a dedicated macro as well. The DFA 100 macro is awesome, light, small and excellent IQ and if you don't have a telephoto, works great with the 1.4 TC.

Are you down around Whitney or up around Pembroke? I am going into Lake of Two River for the May Long Weekend....maybe this late spring will mean less vampires.

As for a long lens, I think I'll stay happy with my M 75-150mm f/4 for a little while longer, especially since the 60-250 is USD$1300...yikes.

$1400 at Henry's

We are in Whitney.
Ya, I ate KD for a year after buying my 60-250, but what a lens.

The trouble with a lens like the 16-85 is, all the sudden, what you shot with before isn't good enough.

I have to say, I have always been very happy with the 18-55....so if this one blows it away...fantastic That said, for compactness, I don't think I will be getting rid of the 18-55...but we'll see.

I eventually sold or gave away all three of mine. I no longer own one. It's not a bad lens, but the 16-85 was sort of Pentax gearing up for "modern lenses for modern sensors". CA correction and PF control are better, you probably own't see a lot of difference in straight resolution, but the image rendering will better and the images will look cleaner. My wife's favourite lens the Tanron 17-50 is a fantastic lens, although sometimes it just has a bad day, but the next variable aperture after the 16-85, the 28-105 which is a little further along the "modern lenses for modern sensors" path is her preferred lens now. The 18-55 and 18-135 are "lenses for the way people shoot pictures" lenses, and designed before pentax released a 24 MP APS-c sensor.. They fit in nicely with the old school of Pentax lens design.
