Back around 1989 I bought an SF-10 SLR with the F series 35-70 kit lens and the F 28mm f2.8. Both took nice pictures with the SF-10. I did notice a difference in build quality between the two lenses even though they looked similar. The zoom had great optics but felt cheap and plasticy. Still, I got about 25 years out of the F 35-70 when I decided to sell it and I ended up regretting my decision. I kept the F 28mm and still use it regularly on my K-3. Its one of my favorite lenses and fits right in with my DA Limiteds in between the 21 and 40 limiteds. The F series certainly have a unique look to them but they can be gems if you can find used ones in good condition.

I have the 4 ones described by the OP. Just aquired the F35-135 as a replacement for my F35-105 that I dropped and damaged.
The superfast AF is a real plus on all these. The colors are vivid.

I was wondering how these would look on a K70 gray body. Just picked up my first of the series, the 100-macro, for my black K70. It got me a mini bonus at work for a macro of the inside of a failed bearing sleeve (boring, materials lab). paid for itself.

Good deal, wrench doozer! I think you'll like the F-100 Macro a lot! Welcome to the site.

I currrently own the following lenses:
  • F24-50 F4
  • F28 F2.8
  • F50 F1.7
  • F50 F2.8 MACRO
  • F35-70 F3.5-4.5
  • F70-210 F4-5.6
  • F100 F2.8 MACRO
  • F135 F2.8

They all are widely used on my K-1 and perform very well, my current favourite being the F50 F2.8 MACRO: It has a wonderful bokeh and is ultrasharp, it's nothing short of amazing.

I used to own a F35-105 F4-5.6 and a F28-80 F3.5-4.5. The focal range of the first one didn't suite the APS-C sized sensor (for me!) of the K10D and the latter one, well, the performance is just bad.
You have to stop down to f8 to get at least decent images. So I was glad to sell both.

What I love is the colorrendition the F-lenses produce, really vivid and natural.

After starting photograpy with a PENTAX Program A, I bought a SFX with the F50 F1.7 lens in 1989; 27 years later I had a FF-body again:

I'm not as far along with F-lens obsession as some of you, but my first F was the 28/2.8 which I loved. It was followed by 50/1.7, 50/1.4 and just recently, 100/2.8 macro. They are all very nice lenses with great colors and very solidly built. I'd like to find the 50/2.8 and the 135/2.8 to round out my prime collection (not that interested in the 85 soft or the long ones.) before moving into the zooms.

Currently, I have the F 300mm f/4.5, and it's turning into one of my favorite lenses. It has replaced my treasured FA 400mm in my camera bag, so I'll probably sell off the 400mm soon.

Over the years I've owned two different F 50mm f/1.7s, and they both suffered from extremely noise AF. Is that normal? My FA 50mm is much quieter.

I have a 35-70 & 70-210 I acquired with a SF-1. I have a 35-135 I acquired with a P-30T and a couple flashes. These were acquired when I still had the K-x, I haven't used them much since other than the 35-70. I have two 35-80s that I have never used...

35-70

35-135. I really liked this lens for shooting panoramas, but I haven't ever used it with my K-3...

The 70-210 was only on my K-x a couple of times.

@thequo This might be a strange comment but I really like your Pentax legacy beauty shot. Neatly illustrates the concept of backward compatibility.

I have to admit, that this box was the only one left from the film era - I used to store the SFX-Body and the then popular Skylight-/UV-filters in this box.

Don't worry, nothing strange at all. I'm glad and thankful, that Pentax/Ricoh maintains this kind of backward compatibility - one of the reasons for sure the K-1 is such a success.

I bought only three brand new cameras in my life: SFX-n, Z-1p and the last one, the K-1.

With the first one it came the "standard" zoom, a Pentax-F 35-70mm. I sold it almost immediately because I was horrified by its plasticky construction. After reading the reviews and checking online the pictures it can take, I regretted my choice... and a few years ago I bought it back

F lenses look and feel quite terrible, but even the cheapest ones are built better than many newer objectives.

For example, late silver FA zooms with plastic bayonet have a VERY poor build. A true pity, cause the optical performance is quite good for the price.

The best Pentax-F I ever tried is the 50mm Macro. Robust innards and great sharpness. Maybe even better than the FA Macro 100mm.

The 85mm Soft Focus is another F lens i treasure.

Some of the zooms aren't exactly the best in their respective range, but I should at least try the 70-210mm on the K-1. I expect a solid performance..
