Run of K-mount Sigma 50-500 lenses to be produced

Hi everyone

I don't really keep up with the super-telephoto news as it's not my thing but I thought this might be of interest to some. Apparently the Sigma 50-500 had been discontinued in the K-mount but according to this page (in Spanish) sent to me by a Spanish Pentax online dealer, a limited run is to be produced soon. The price in Spain is 1379.00€, no idea what it would be elsewhere.

Sigma 50-500mm para Pentax: una oportunidad quizás única

This is very cool and the price is competitive to the 50-500mm here in the U.S. in other mounts.

Very good lens. Such a pity to see it disappear in K-mount. Not much choice left for Pentaxians after this.

It would be a blessing if either the Tamron 150-600mm, or one of the two Sigma's of the same range were offered in K-mount. My experience with a Siggy 50-500mm and with both the first and second versions of the Tammy 150~600mm indicate the latter are significantly better, but then they are maybe 20 or 25 years more advanced design.

Amen. I would open my checkbook for any of those four with preference for the G2 Tamron.

The latest 50-500 OS is a good lens. I'm assuming this is the version (probably with OS removed since it's Pentax mount). The more options the better.

Somehow I manage to make do with the Pentax-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW.

The Pentax is better, but the cheaper option can be good for some.

No, the OS operates. It has the advantage on a long lens that the image through the viewfinder is stabilised as well as on the sensor, which make composition at ~500 mm a little easier hand-held

Sigma had a history of removing the OS from the shorter lenses that had it. But they added it to the last run of the 150-500 & 120-400...

The Sigma 50-500 OS with my K5 give me very good memory on butterfly photos, the OS help a lot stable in the viewfiner and I do hand held most of the time, not good for long hike but good for shooting in gardens or open area close by.

Never had or used the Sigma 50-500. But I do have the Sigma 150-500 and I've been very happy with this lens. Nice to see Sigma doing a run of Pentax mount lenses.

I'm another 150-500 owner and I'm quite happy with it. At the time I bought it, I was going back and forth on the price of it and the 50-500 when B&H put it on sale for an incredibly good price and that settled it. That said, I'm very happy to see Sigma continuing the 50-500. It gives Pentax shooters a very good long telephoto zoom option for a more affordable price. I would not be surprised to see this run sell out fairly quickly and I hope it does. It may send a message to Sigma that there is still a market for K mount lenses.

Actually, I'm happy to see any third party lenses in K mount. I think it's good for Pentax to have third party support.

This limited run news is very puzzling. So far, only this site in Spain is selling these lenses and then only by advance purchase until the end of April with delivery in May. That's right...announced on the 17th for a little under a 2-week window and offered with "garantía oficial española". Gray market? New old stock?

It does seem odd, but they claim it is a new batch. (From Steve's link) "By the way, these new Sigma 50-500 millimeters are already corrected and its structure does not touch the housing of the Pentax K-1 and K-1 Mark II , as it happened with the units produced before 2016."
