it is a teleconverter, 1.7x as it says
this Pentax one in particular is unique because it can move the elements to focus MF lenses

correct me if I am wrong but w/ that 1.7x you need to prefocus (approx) manually first and then 1.7 will just fine tune the focus... it is a major hassle for the money... I 'd rather use catch in focus/focus trap.

Sounds like you are looking for either a Kenko 1.5x or 2x, Tamron 1.4x, 2x, Sigma 1.4x and 2x and Promaster 1.7x

These all maintain the AF function of the lens as long as certain limits are met, namely the aperture.

Kenko | 1.5x DG AF Tele-Converter for Pentax AF | K15AFDGPK

Promaster AF 1.7X Teleconverter 2009 : Wolfe's Camera Shop

Edit: The Tamron 1.4x is sought after but is hard to come bye since it is back-order indefinitely. They show up in the market place and ebay and there is much competition. I have the kenko 1.5 and it is decent. I have heard good things about the 1.7x Promaster as well.

who says about not doing it at all - catch if focus/focus trap will be no worse... AF is still at work.
