18-50 I think is the only other one so far.

EDIT: Just the one lens so far.

The 18-50 is KAF3 in that it has the traditional mechanical aperture actuator. At present, only the 55-300 is KAF4.

I use my 18-50 on a K-x (a compact and carefree lightweight combination),
so I don't think this one is a KAF 4 lens.

This one is not a KAF4 lens but is also retractable. If I remember correctly the DFA* 50 will be the second KAF4 (electro-magnetic aperture control) lens.

I’m guessing the new lenses will all be KAF4. Why else would they hide the mount on the 11-18 photos?

why would Pentax go away from its strength: the ability to use older camera bodies?

" **Because the aperture is controlled electronically, this lens can only stop down when used with compatible cameras. The Pentax K-50, K-S1, K-S2, K-3, K-3 II, and K-1 are supported via a camera firmware update; the Pentax K-70, Pentax KP and all 2017 or newer bodies will work out of the box. The aperture diaphragm will always remain wide-open on unsupported bodies.

In an nutshell, this lens fully compatible with recent DSLRs but shouldn't be used on older bodies or film cameras. "

The D FA* 50mm will have a KAF4 mount.

I think it makes sense to fully switch over to KAF4 for FF lenses, while crop lenses should stay with KAF3 until older models like the K-30 and K-5 decrease significantly in popularity.

I f I read this chart correctly

The Pentax Camera Lens Compatibility Chart the following Pentax Camera bodies:

K-1 [ and its replacement ], K-3 II [ and its replacement], K 3, K-50, K-70, K-S1, K-S2

will be or are able to handle the KAF4

9 total

these cannot:

K-01, K10D, K20D, K-7, K-5, K-5 II,
K-5 IIS, K-30, K-500, K-m, K2000, K-x, K-r
K100D Super, K200D, *ist D series, K100D, K110D

I wonder how many folks use the camera bodies that are incompatible with the KAF4

They are not incompatible, they just missing one function. Like in the past Powerzoom.
Currently it seems like cheaper lenses (mass market) will be introduced as KAF4, so no worries for longtime Pentax users. There are plenty of options with KAF3 now.

I don't think that's a fair comparison. A lack of power zoom features doesn't prevent basic exposure control. Electronic aperture that you can't manipulate is a pretty serious lack of functionality.

Your second point, that there are many kaf3 lenses already available is certainly true.
