APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM

I have a k200d - will the body work with the APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM ?

How about APO 100-300mm F4 EX DG HSM - will this work on a k200d?

Thanks
Warren

The 100-300mm f4 is available to Pentax mounts but not currently as an HSM. Just regular screw drive AF.
The 70-200mm HSm is supposed to be out but we haven't seen it yet and it could be weeks, months....who knows.

When Sigma saw the Tamron started shipping, they said "we better do something".
Sigma News - 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II for Four-Thirds and Pentax available next week
hehe... I had to laugh. This upcoming week is "next week" too. Hoping they're smarter than to commit like that and not deliver.

As a side, I think B&H doesn't have a good relationship with Sigma any more. They don't have it listed for any mount (searched on Sigma "70-200mm") but 47 St. Photo does.. taking orders @ $809. They're the guys that gave me my 300mm @ a killer price. tempting tempting.

Yeb, the DPReview test says:
This lens uses Sigma's 'HyperSonic Motor' (HSM) variant of ultrasonic focusing for fast, accurate and near-silent operation. The good news is that this will be provided for users of all lens mounts, but unfortunately it also means that users of older Pentax DSLRs which don't support SDM lenses will lose out, and only be able to focus manually (in other words, the lens is effectively of KAF-3 mount specification).

I found it quite interesting that the reviewer chose to write that addressing Pentax directly, where the body the test was being done on was a Nikon, so why bother mentioning Pentax at all. Well, very kewl not to be ignored... Anyway, that's still a "yes" for you.

I have ordered one, according to the store it should in this coming week.

Wait and see game for now. I'll advise on arrival.

The canon mount one was pretty poor from what I read at a site today, the guy tryed 3 different lenses and they all were bad in his eyes. So check it out real good. At least they have a 4 year warranty.

If Sigma says next week it's usually Next week or at the latest the following week.
The same goes with when they say Next month, or next year

So you can count on it being released within 2 weeks latest

I'm interested in seeing how the IQ is while used with a Pentax.

I've been hearing this as well, although that doesn't meant that the Pentax mount will be bad.

I believe the main difference between this version and the old one is a Macro setting. (I may be wrong)
If it is inferior I hope that Sigma just changes back to the old design, and forgets about macro.
After all, if you can afford this lens can't you afford a dedicated macro lens as well

I suggest you look again. They have 25 reviews of the lens from Nikon users and 10 from Canon users with an overall rating of 4.5/5. Not only that, but they're $10 cheaper than 47th St. Photo.

Weird why I only got the discontinued old ones when I did my search. Ha, that's what it is.... Sigma "70-200mm" only returns the old ones, Sigma 70-200 or Sigma 70-200mm (without the quotes) returns the new ones...

One of their forum members on the DPreview Pentax group has just posted some pictures taken with his new Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 II lens, so it's obviously on the market now (at least in Australia).

available for pre-order at B&H

I cannot decide between this and the Tamron, but it is available for pre-order at B&H, for $100 more than the $699 Tamron:

Sigma | 70-200m f/2.8 DG MCRO HSM-II f/PEN/SAM | 579109 | B&H

I hope enough of you pull the trigger (I have hidden away the $300 gift card I have for B&H, just in case I cannot control the acute case of LBA) and help me decide if the AF on the Sigma is really worth the extra $100 - and if there is no compromise in terms of IQ.

In stock @ B&H

This lens with HSM is in stock right now at B&H.

Something to consider before buying, this new lens will not work with the current generation EX TC's from Sigma. I just checked both mine, and neither have the power contacts to allow HSM to work.

I have tried my Tamron TC with my DA50-135, and while it does power the SDM, it does not work correctly.

So be warned that you likely will not be able to use this lens with any current generation TC's.

OK....so, who's gonna be the one who pulls the trigger and buys this? I've been all gung ho about purchasing this the second it came out b/c i've been wanting a 70-200/2.8 for a long time now, but I've been having a serious case of diarrhea of the wallet recently. I'm waiting to see real reviews from other peoples perspectives for this generation Sigma for K-Mount. Plenty of reviews for the Canon and Nikon mount....and i'm wondering if the Pentax mount will be any different....

As a matter of fact, i'm probably gonna try and rent this for an upcoming track day at Willow Springs to see how it performs!
