Just catching up with this - when travelling with my LX I usually go for primes: M28/2.8, FA43/1.9 & M135/3.5 (I think a 50mm is a bit too long - before I bought the FA43 I used an M40.2.8). I like the solid feel of manual primes and the ease of focussing on a manual camera. I might be tempted to replace the M28 with a K24/2.8 at some point. The M40 pancake is so small it take sup no space in the bag.

I sometimes also take the K-5, in which case I may take FA20-35/4, FA50/1.4 & M135/3.5 instead - as these fit both the 135 & APS-C formats better. I have a K135/2.5 but it's too big & heavy and needs a separate hood whereas the M135/3.5 uses 49mm filters and has a built in hood (and is smaller & lighter).

Another option is the A35-105/3.5 but it's a big/heavy lens - it's not so much the size/weight travelling with it - more that it unbalances the camera (especially when hanging on a strap).

My current plan is my Tamron 17, a 35mm f2, and maybe the 85mm f2. The Tokina 28-70 is my single-lens walking zoom.

Definitely get the M 85/2. It’s the only cheap 85 of pentax made lenses. It’s also super compact, and solid. I have a little bag (a Domke F-5XB) and it easily fits the Super Program, A50/1.4, M85/2, A24-50/4, and a A28/2.8*. This will probably go in my tank bag on my motorcycle trip to Yellowstone in a couple months.

* that whole kit probably weighs less than my Pentax 67 with one lens (55/3.5)

That would be nice, motorcycling through Yellowstone. I've been close on a bike and went through via car a while ago.

I'll be in the market for a new tank bag, when this all comes together, as well as a new bike. Based on the old tank bag, I assume it'll just hold the camera, a roll of film, and maybe a second lens. The 85 will probably get the least amount of use. That said it seems perfect for what I want and fast enough.

A long time ago, I had a wonderful 28-70 F2.8 lens from Sigma. It was my favourite lens for travel.

There are also two Pentax lenses that worth a look, the Pentax 25-50 F4 and the 40-80 Macro.
