Vivitar MC 24mm f2.0

I was watching an ebay aution yesterday, one of these went for a bit more than I casually spend on photography, but the interesting thing is that a quick google didn't throw up much information at all on this lens.

Wondered if anyone here had any knowledge of it. I mean, F2.0 is pretty fast, considering Sigma's current 'fast' 24mm is only f1.8. Is the old vivitar any good? 70 a bargain price?

i bid!

I saw it too, thought the same, did some searches and came up with not a lot!

I bid 30 max on it, and was winning for quite some time way below my final bid price when it went crazy and sold for quite a lot of money...

The reason I went for it is because my 28mm close focus vivitar is a truly stunning lens, and cost me 4 off ebay!

I know that viv use lots of different manufacturers, (mine is by komine, nice!) but though worth a gamble, as these lenses can be great, if you get the right maker.

You will likely be interested in the extensive thread on manual Vivitar 28mm lenses.

On my blog I am following up with a series of articles, the first of which is Looking For The Perfect Normal. More coming soon!

I had the Kiron badged version of this same lens. At full aperture it has somewhat dreamy look, but gets much better at 2.8. Also the coatings are not in the same league as SMC.

It was quite interesting lens and not bad for the price. Atleast lower than the one in the auction mentioned in the first post.

I know.

But how different are they going to be? And given the lack of info on 24mm perhaps the info on the 28mm will help a tad.

That lens look identical to a Soligor 24mm lens I had. Gieven the fact, that neither company made their own lenses, there's a good chance that they are identical lenses. I never could track down the manufacturer on the Soligor, but it was a pretty good lense. I just didn't like using the AE-L button for exposure, so I got rid of it. I believe the '28' beginning to the serial number indicates that it was made by Komine.

I was able to find some info here:

MrA,
I converted my Olympus 24mm 2.8 to K-mount and it is a great lens. The focal lenght and great DOF are very useful. It is hard to find good wide primes at reasonable prices.
