Tokina 28-70 f2.8 ATX Pro II

Anybody have this lens? Anybody know anything about it? I may have an opportunity to buy one. I've looked on eek bay and they are selling for anywhere from about 150 to 400 (new) USD for Nikon or Canon mounts, no info there on prices for Pentax mount but I'm assuming prices should be about the same. Tho owning to the absolute scarcity of any kind of pentax glass maybe not. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't got that one, but probably a close relative

Tokina 28-70 f2.8 ATX Pro SV with 77mm filter.

Unfortunately haven't used it too much yet, but it appears that it needs f4 to be really sharp, and it can be sharp, that is for sure...

I paid 110 for new old stock here in UK, but I thought this was a very good price for the condition and the lens.

When reading up upon the series, I have read that they might be a little softer using some focal lenghts (I think 40mm) but I have not tried it really to see if true...

OK let me put it on the camera

tried it now - and - as I said above, appears really good at F4, but soft at 2.8, not terribly soft, but obviously so, it certainly looks usable I would say. Did not notice any difference in sharpness on different FL's and tried 28mm, 38mm , 45mm, 50mm and 70mm - that much about this quick shapshot.

Wait you planning to use this on dslrs right? Cuz Cameta Camera's selling Sigma 18-50mm/2.8 EX for $300 US Buy-It-Now on eBay.

So if this is strictly a dSLR engagement, then why now get some more wide angle? Just my 2 cents.

I already have the 18-55 kit lens. I want the slightly longer reach of the 28-70. An extra 15mm doesn't sound like much but it would help. I was looking to use it as my main walk around lens, but if it's soft at 2.8 I'll pass.

well not sure how is that Tamron, but if it is truly sharp at f4, than I would not bother either, unless you really need that stop, I think I'll shoot f2.8 when it's really necessary (difference between not needed movement blur, and softness), but for best quality I would say F4 and above.

Look for an ol' Series 1 28-90/2.8-3.5. Apparently from what I've read so far, it doesn't drop the half stop till you get close to 90mm.

When I get mine and the apertures ok, I'll post up some pics.
