Which 70-210mm is best? Pentax or Kiron?

I have a problem I'm hoping someone can help me with. I have two 70-210mm lenses:

A Kiron f4.5 with macro.

A Pentax A f4 with macro.

I'm heading to Burma for 3 weeks in 48 hours, and as I am travelling light, I am uncertain which one will give me the better image quality. The Pentax is a "tank" of a lens, while the Kiron is a somewhat lighter. Both have metal casings.

So I'm leaning towards the Kiron.

But image/picture quality is essential. I have only had the lenses for a brief period of time (don't ask me why I have two 7-210's because it's a long story *lol*), and haven't really had the time to test them both.

Which would you take? Anyone had any experience with the Kiron?

The Pentax gets a modest 7.7 rating in the Pentax Forum lens reviews, but no mention is made of the Kiron.

if you can cope with manual exposure only, go for a Vivitar Series 1 70-210 F3.5 (First version)

I don't have the Kiron but I would give my Pentax A 70-210 a much higher rating than 7.7. I'd rate mine at least 85, maybe as high as 90. My main complaints with it are that the macro is at the 70mm end, and that the barrel rotates as it focuses. Both complaints are niggles. I like the 'one touch' system and the fact that the zoom is internal. Resolution is quite good even wide open at 210, and it has excellent bokeh. Since I've gotten it, my DA 50-200 has been sitting on the shelf, despite the fact that the latter lens is lighter, smaller and AF. The IQ, bokeh and speed more than make up for the size and AF.

The Kiron copy I have is automatic in all areas apart from focus, which is manual...I use it with my K10D. Ditto for the Pentax.

BTW, I rarely use macro anyway.

I would agree with that, I have a Kiron version, M42 mount, these where all taken with this lens, under some difficult conditions.

I have the A 70-210/4, and I like it - except for the one touch zoom. I prefer the two ring system. Big deal. It's the only 70-210 I have, and it even works well as a 100-300/5.6 with the Pentax 1.4X-S on it. It seems to work quite well on the k10d, as well.
