Capture #2 is really exceptional! Thanks for sharing.
Best.
Thanks!

It really is a great lens. I still prefer the rendering of the DA* 50-135, but the AF is noticeably slower and hunts more in suboptimal light.

Excellent sequence @Simple1. Is it some kind of gannet?

Thanks Des.

I had to look this up

It is a blue footed booby (Sula), part of the Sulidae family. Boobies are closely related to the gannets (Morus), which were formerly included in Sula.

So short answer would be...a relative.

Makes sense. There are four species of Booby and two Gannets in Australia and they seem to be lumped together: Bird - Australian Boobies,Gannets

Here's an Australasian Gannet. (K-3 + DA 55-300 PLM). You can see the similarity. These Gannets are noted for the way they catch fish by spear-diving into the water from a height. It's impressive to watch. I gather boobies do the same.

That they do and agreed, it is impressive to watch. I tried getting a shot of it but about the time I'd get distracted, one would hit the water...

KP and 55-300 PLM @260mm. I may have posted this previously but after reworking in DXO and putting a larger version up on Flickr, I think it is worth a look.
