Finally, some cormorants from the same boat trip off Bruny Island.

Black-faced Cormorant.

Great Cormorant in breeding plumage. The ones in background are Pied Cormorants.

Amazing shots Des! I also love your rare albatross images as they run along the water during their takeoff run.

Thanks very much. Yes it was great getting so close to these wonderful birds. The fast AF of the PLM is a dream for these situations.

I don't do much bird photography, but this one was just barely in range of the PLM at St. Mary's Lake on Sunday.

I watched this titanic battle for about 5 minutes (from a respectful distance ). They were still going hard at one another when I left. All that power and muscle was an awesome sight and somehow the rain made it even more dramatic.

K-S2 + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm (showing the value of this lightweight, go-everywhere, WR combination).

In cropping the shots I left some foreground turf, for a more "ringside" look, and to underscore the earthy quality of the contest.

Comparison with the 60-250?

I use the lens SO infrequently mostly because it's so big and heavy, but also because I'm just not into that focal length. I NEVER take it travelling. I'm thinking of selling it to complete my limited set (need the 70 and maybe the 35 macro) and to get the 55-300 PLM. Am I crazy?

Let me know.

Cheers,
Cameron

IMHO. NO, you are not assuming you understand what the PLM CAN do, and with what it has "issues" - and those are mainly (again,IMHO!) related to the Pentax bodies on which it is intended to be mounted

Not sure cambo is talking about the plm because "big and heavy". Not sure what is being discussed at all. I think it is the plm as an alternative to a bigger, heavier lens.

FWIW, I would suggest that cambo's post, as his post title refencing another lens stated, would seem to indicate that he is more inclined to take the PLM in preference to that other lens..

Post title? I am confused more now. Where is the post title? Is it shown on the non-mobile site? I see thread title only.

I was asking how the PLM compares to the 60-250, as it is the lens I use the least, and I am thinking of selling it.

Lol....

Ok thanks. I re-read and then looked up IMHO to understand. I still don't know how I should have known the 60-250 was mentioned. I am OOTL, I know that one.

In clarification, Cambo's post #219 has the individual Title of "Comparison with the 60-250?" - that shows up on the full version of the site, but obviously not on the mobile one.
