Right, but anything counts I suppose.

Nice photo. I like the bird's pattern.

Be prepared.

I’d been stalking the Gold Finches in the wetlands of Champion’s Park on my dog walks there for weeks with my A rig, K3iii with DA* 300 f4 + 1.4x TC or B rig, same camera and the 55-300 PLM + TC. I’ve had limited success. I figure as close as I’ve gotten is 15 yards.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to walk my dog around the block and as we walked out the door I grabbed the B rig off the desk. Exactly one block from my home we came across this fella gorging himself on seeds in the corner flower garden by the alley at Crescent Hill United Methodist Church. He completely ignored me, my dog and several cars* pulling up along side him.

We got within 15 feet instead of 15 yards and i shot 50 frames, many one handed as I had my dog leash in my left hand.

*This alley runs parallel to a fairly busy commercial street. Many neighborhood folks use it for short trips to avoid Frankfort Avenue.

Well it can't take clear picture of hikers 1000' up and 3.3 km (2 mi) away from a moving sailboat on a 20 knot wind day! (Butterpot Mtn above Holyrood Arm, NL. The cairn is close to exactly 1000'.)

(1203x799 full res crop)

(full pic @300mm)

Long reaches, long reaches :P I find this lens to be a bit smudgy or soft if you want it if shooting at above 210 on long distances. Dunno why, on short ones even 300 is not a problem. Still, the true greatness is in the short ranged shots, this is really nice for flower photography:

I wouldn't want to be any closer. With the tc. I am at 364mm. Probably a 3 second charge away.
