Questing for the lost spring I almost collided with Cernunnos. This was close to 5 meters away. Shot at 260mm with the 1.4x tc making it 360. He felt as close as he looked. taken 2 hours ago.

I so wish I had had a little more reach, bigger aperture and/or better ISO performance, but still I like the shot

Considering the heron is so small in the frame, and at 6400 ISO, you did well to get such accurate focus and such a sharp image. It would probably stand a fair bit of cropping. Personally I'd go a 16:9 ratio and crop to about a third or a quarter of the original - while some context is good, the full expanse of grass doesn't add very much IMO.

Even at 400mm or 420mm the heron wouldn't be very big in the frame. Such is life in bird photography.

Thanks. Well, for Instagram I cropped in to the bird in 1:1 and not much around it. Here I thought I'd share the full frame and who likes to zoom in can do so on flickr. This shot is what the PLM on the K-S2 could get me without the bird flying away. But from now on the decision for me will be if I'll go for 300/4 or 420/5.6
