LBA: my latest toy

SMC-M Macro 50/4, there's not a scratch on this, it cannot have been used.

and the first shot:

1/90 f22 ISO200 with body flash at -2.0

The spider is 5mm across.

I'm gonna have to get used to getting close to things!

ewww that's an ugly looking spider. why does it have such a huge body?
i used to have a Super Macro Tak 50 which I believe was the same and all the shots were sharp, but i think the M model is easier to use because of the wide open focusing. hope you enjoy the lens

So the onboard flash choke works with M lenses... that's good to know, this is one of the limitations with shooting with the Takumars, you don't get any flash automation / control on the K100D at least.

I'm amazed at how close I have to get with the Tamron 90 (and extension tubed Tak 50) so I can see you were right there for the spider. They see us too.

I'm pretty sure my K10D fires the flash full strength with M lenses. Must recheck.
Checked - I can shoot -2.0 or +1.0 the exposure is identical.

means I used to have a very nice copy of one of these, but I sold it to bruloup when I was freeing up lens capital for the DA 35ltd.. It's a great little largely-unheralded lens, one of the sharpest 50s I've shot.

Unfortunately, no. When I was photographing the spider I kept looking at the preview and the histogram and twiddling the compensation (and other settings) until I got the illumination right, but it must be a coincidence that -2.0 gave me the right level. I've just taken shots in a more controlled test (+1, 0, -1, -2, camera on a tripod) and they all look the same, so the flash must be firing full power on all of them Oh well, it looks like I will have to resort to putting tissue paper over the flash to reduce it.

LOL, and from a search on the internet I see that some people have had allergic reactions from being bitten by one of those. This one didn't seem too worried by me.

Wow....

That lens positively makes my old copy look like it was dropped in a toilet then drug thru the desert behind a camel.....
Of course if I ever sell it the condition will be listed as 9+

Nice find!
