While I do have a few buckets of lenses of all kinds, I'm picking the DA16-85 and DA55-300 PLM. They are the basis of my travel kit, accompanied currently by the KP, and have the IQ that I find adequate for the core reason that I do photography. Which is essentially a life record of important events, locations, and people. Somewhat in the category of snapshots, but with added beauty and IQ, pleasant to view as just images as well as capturing the personal relevance aspect. Many are just images that I personally find beautiful, but there's always a story behind every one, frequently known only to me.

These lens allow me maximum flexibility in FOV while overcoming "zoom with the feet" problems at fences, shores, cliffs, etc.

Take that, LBA!! Riiiiiiiight . . .

I chose 1 zoom and 1 prime.
With lenses I currently own: Sigma 17-50 & D FA 100 WR? Or 18-135 and DA 50?
With lenses I don't own: 16-85 and 77?
Tough choice that I'm glad I don't have to make in real life.

I'm with ya on this as well. I'm tempted by the 150-450 though as that opens a whole new field.

Out of the ones I own, I'd go with my new DA 16-85 as a jack of all trades, and the DA 35 F2.4 as a small, compact, wonderfully sharp gem for when I need something lighter.

2 zooms.

When I bought my first K5 I didn’t have a lot of money to spend on camera gear so I ended up purchasing the 16-50 and 50-135 hoping that would cover any range I needed. I really like both of those lenses but the SDM failure has caused a few headaches. Just this morning both of these lenses would not wake up right away one eventually did the other I’m still working on, very frustrating. So if I had to do it over again I would probably go with Primes. I’ve been looking at the 77 for quite a while and really want it.

I guess it'll be 1 prime and 1 zoom for me.

The sigma 17-70 and either the tamron 90mm macro or pentax 100mm.

I seem to be in the minority, but definitely two zooms. A short zoom and a long zoom.

Why not two prime like zooms?

Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8
Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8

Too bad the latter one is not offered in K mount.

I'm with you a couple of pages back. 16-85/55-300PLM make a darn nice outdoors pair.

Much as I love my Ltd primes, I would find the frustration of taking landscapes without the range a couple of zooms could give too great. OTOH, I love macro. Actually, what's the point of an SLR if you only have two lenses! I'm not playing

My boating kit is primarily the K-70, 18-135 and 55-300, but I also keep the 40mm in a side pocket. It gets little use but can be handy.

As mentioned above 16-85/55-300 for me. But like you I keep the 40mmLtd in a side pocket rolled up in one of my daughter's socks for protection.

It comes in handy when the sun is just right...
