Nah, it won't be that bad. The old A*400/2.8 is just 6 kg. A modern hyper-corrected DFA* would be no more than double that, I think...

Anyway, it would still be a midget compared to the old 800mm f/4 for 6x7. That is a monster with its 17.7 kgs - plus a case weighing in at 7 kgs - and 145mm filter size.

And you have more organs than you need anyway

Type : FF
Lens : zoom and prime and TC

DFA 1.4TC to pair with the 70-200.
UWA zoom (15-30 or 17-35) F4 so it could be in the 400-600 gr.
35mm f2/1.8 that remain relatively compact (like the da*55 will do) - successor of the FA 35.

I love high quality primes and zooms, but i can't carry them all. A tad slower, and so a bit lighter, high quality would be great.

My dream lenses are all good for portraits. Two are currently made, the others are very old.

First one is the Laowa Venus STF (SmoothTransFocus) 105mm f/2.
I doubt I could ever find it second-hand, and unfortunately it's too expensive for my current budget.
I have problems selling my lenses, I'm too attached to all of them... but at this point I have to earn some money to be able to afford a new acquisition. I have already spent too much, so I guess I got to sell at least the duplicates
If I can't afford the Laowa, I will go for the Samyang 135mm f/2. It's another great portrait lens, not as specialised, but it's one of the best 135mm's ever.

The vintage options are all super fast short teles, like the Komura family (1.8/100mm; 1.4/85mm; 2/105mm; 2/135mm), a couple of fast Soligors (like the old 1.8/135mm), and the Enna 1.5/85mm.
None of these lenses come for cheap, though I can confirm that with some patience it's still possible to find some decent deal.
I have some beautiful duplicates, like the Tamron Soft Focus zoom (the only one of its kind). As soon as I will be back home I will list them for sale on this forum.
I prefer to find a new loving owner who will fully appreciate them, than to get some more money on eBay... Once I sold an Hasselblad wide angle, that was checked by my favourite repairman just before the sale. He started asking for a partial refund for some non-existing haze, I issued a small refund to share the cost of cleaning for the sake of tranquility... and he immediately relisted the same item at a premium!
I prefer to deal with other enthusiasts.
I like the idea of this forum as a community, and I like even more to find other fellows who are as crazy for vintage optics as I am!

I only want a portrait lens if LeRolls lets me follow him everywhere he goes.

For me, there's a sense of primitive enjoyment whenever I use a tele... it's like when you hand a binocular to a child... seeing far-away objects as if you were actually closer, the feeling of being able to move at will in space...
I started experimenting with the only cheap TC I own for this very reason.
I miss very much the wetlands with bird watching areas, close the the place were I was born.
It's a real pity, nothing like that where I live now.
There is no much use for long teles here. Last time I brought the Sigma HSM OS 120-400mm: almost never used it... but it got infected by fungi!
Next time I will bring a much lighter AF zoom, the Tokina AT-X Pro 80-400mm

After seeing how many people in the lens ownership polls who never shoot over 100mm, I wonder how much market there would be for it. But I'm sure they could make a new one for a lot less than the one in the market place is going for. But would it ever be worth their while?

When I was 17 years old, a friend had invited me over to his house while his parents were gone ( which was against house rules). My buddy says "Come see this." With a sense of awe and wonder he went into his father's closet, pulled out a long black tube ( from the back of the closet behind his father's clothes) from which he withdrew a very long Pentax SMC 600mm lens. I've been fascinated with long glass ever since. Reading the forum, I've come to understand, that's not a common attribute.
Not me!!
I have been fascinated by huge cannons (not Canons!) since I was a teenager.
Always loved huge, bulky lenses.
Can't say why, I find them irresistibly attractive
Over time I amassed a huge number.
The one I love the most is not so huge, though it's as beautiful as a Pentax lens could ever be.
I could never afford it these days, fortunately I bought it when I could.
It's the Pentax-A Star f/2.8 300mm.
I purchased it in like new condition, in its beautiful case, with a 2x "L" teleconverter and a super expensive (and huge!) Helioplan circular polarizer.
Later on, I added the 1.4x-L converter and the AF 1.7x converter.
Never tried it on the K-1. I bet it would outresolve the sensor, even with the 1.4x.

I have a few other memorable chimneys, like the SMC Pentax 4.5/500mm (I had to strip out an ugly camouflage) and the Pentacon 5.6/500mm converted to 6x7 mount.
Two other wonderful lenses are the Tamron SP (Adaptall-2) 200-500mm (third and last version with the same focal), and the Enna Tele-Ennalyt 4.5/400mm (I have a very rare version with multi-coating).
Other valuable long lenses are the various russian catadioptric. The Matsukov 1100mm is another huge beast!
I'm trying to assemble some pieces of Ikea furniture to have my lens collection on display. Well, these huge lenses will never find place on a cupboard
I guess they will be left out of sight, together with all the Novoflex follow-focus stuff...

I'm considering a D FA 24-70/2.8. Until recently I have just used the surprisingly good Tamron 28-75/2.8 but mine has been malfunctioning lately so I need to start thinking about replacing it. I could get another copy but I've had some good photo work lately so I could afford a 24-70 and it makes sense to have WR for me and how I shoot. I'm just hesitating on pulling the trigger, one reason being because it's so much bigger. But it's not like I have a lot of choices for a fast medium FL full frame zoom. I guess the 28-105 could be a contender but I need f/2.8 every now and then.

As one can see from my signature I believe I've got the range covered from 10 mm to 500 mm with zooms, including three 50 mm primes & a tilt shift 35 mm. At present I think I'll probably look add more inserts for the Lensbaby like the Sweet 50, Sweet 80, & maybe the Fisheye, along with either a plastic fantastic DA 35 mm or DA 35 mm Macro primes to my collection

I just bought the DA300 this spring, so my lens-purchasing budget is pretty much blown for the year. It was a great purchase, now I'm carrying two cameras in the field and it's payed dividends already.
I am constantly tempted by the Sigma 8-16, it's a unique lens. Though I'd probably get the 70mm pancake to round out the trio.

...and the 24-70 should be less prone to that blurry pictures issue that some users seemed to get with their 28-105.

the current lenses i have right now:
14mm rokinon
24-70 2.8
50 1.4
77mm 1.8
85mm rokinon 1.4
85mm sigma 1.4
100mm macro wr
70-200 2.8 tamron
70-300 tamron

i will be selling the 70-300, the rokinon 85, the 70-200 tamron, and the 24-70mm lens soon.

and in return, i'll be getting:
the 28-105 wr
pentax 200mm wr 2.8
some sort of a 35mm lens. the pentax 2.4 and 2.8s are not wide enough. the f2 one is small, which is nice, but if the image quality is similar to the 50mm 1.4, then i may not want that. the 31mm is a lil too wide. so maybe a sigma 35? not sure yet.

the sale will be after the july 1st wedding i have.

and then the lenses i'll buy before a long september vacation. i'm prolly take the 28-105 as a travel lens. along with a 77mm and maybe a 100mm macro? or i'll take out the 77 for a 200mm 2.8? or maybe a 50mm 1.4? not sure yet.

If you mean field-of-view, the 28 and 30mm lenses won't be a big difference for FOV over the 35mm. Sigma does make nice 28 and 30mm lenses.

You could consider a DA21mm if you want significantly wider with very good image quality. You can crop down when needed. It's my favorite indoor lens, you can be at conversation range with people and get very pleasing images. It has a very "eye-view" feel to it, the images put you in the scene.

The sigma 30mm is a crop lens.
And i need a wider aperture lens.
