Flare would be the F1.4's enemy.
The Art version of the Sigma 30 1.4 is actually pretty good when it comes to flare. I'm not sure 40+ year coatings are going to beat it... I don't think it's at DA 15 levels - not that either one is, but as I said the Sigma is not bad at all.

70-200/2.8 Pentax - it is too pricey.

I always wanted the 771.8 and I did get it. Then I never ended up using it, focal length to long for me however the IQ is wonderful. Now its the 31 I guess.

On an aps-c body, I found the 31 focal length to be quirky, but the 77 was my go-to lens. On full frame the 31 is always close at hand.

For me it has been the DA*300. I have the DA*60-250 and a Sigma 50-500, so I'm covered in that focal range. I doubt that I would buy on now. If I were to get another lens in that range it would be the DFA 150-450.
I was in the opposite boat in that I had the DA*300 and wanted more length and wanted the DA 560 for some time but since it's not FF I got the 150-450 and now, I never look at the DA* 300.

My lens is now the Kerlee 35/1,2. It was the K 1.2 50mm. Anybody know if they ship to US?

For me it’s the DA* 300. I got the 60-250 and the HD DA 1.4 x TC. I will probably pick up a DA* 200 as well for the extra speed and lighter weight.

about ten years agp I bought a K50/1.2 mint in the box for $325. Its in such nice shape Im afraid to use it. So I cant tell you if its worth the money or not. Mine is in the box, and the box is probably just collecting dust.
At least take it out for a spin! Unless you're really unlucky it'll still be just as mint at the end of the session, and you can put it back in the box for another decade... I use my K28/2 on occasion, though TBH it's not a focal length I really get on with.

Haven't really got an on-topic candidate for this thread. Need to use the lenses I already have a bit more... Maybe the 560, can't ever see myself justifying that one!

I'd like to add the words so far...

For me that'll be the SMC Pentax-A* 400mm F2.8 ED [IF] and it's only cos I can't think of a suitable harem name for her... you understand.

Similar but opposite for me. Its the 60-250 that I just ended up never getting. I always wanted it but it was always out of my budget. I got the DA*200 and DA*300 (both bought used), the 1.4 TC and the 55-300 PLM which covers those focal lengths. You may not need the DA*200 having the 60-250 already covering that focal length. I never use my DA*200 wide open f2.8 since it is prone to purple fringing wide open. I find I have been using it less since I got the DA*300 and the PLM.

New: FA 31/1.8
Vintage: K 28/2

As others have said, too expensive.

At the other extreme, I just bought a K 200mm for a song. Strange (awesome) that some really great lenses are so cheap. The K 55/1.8 is another good example.

Alright, this is now a class project everyone. Let's help Kerrowdown come up with a harem name for the lens he now admits to covet.

Here's suggestion #1: The Queen Mary

Yeah, we can workshop this … 'Elegant Lady', 'Majestic Princess', 'Town Bike', perhaps.

Problem is that what comes in the order of precedence between a duchess and HM the Queen is HRH the princess, and we already have Pentaxian princesses. I strongly suspect however that if Kerrowdown coaxed her, she'd whisper her name in his ear.

DA 560mm. Simply too much money for an amateur, but I would love to have a go at the birdies with this one. I guess another reason for not getting it would be the long learning curve for getting good pics with it... Don't have anything longer than 300mm today, tried that with a 2x TC but no good results at all.
