28-105 and a good prime somewhere in the range covered by the 70-200 would be of interest to me. FA 135 f2.8's maybe or a Samyang 135 f2.0 perhaps.

I would find a used copy and you'll be very pleased.

I’ll second that. The price of a good one has been edging down for a while, as has that of the FA*80-200/2.8. I have a copy of each, and no desire to replace them with the present-day equivalents.

I sold a pristine copy of the FA* 80-200 f/2.8 a few years ago. Everyone told me I was nuts. I stand by the decision - not because it wasn't a great lens - but because I still haven't gone full frame and the 50-135 is a gem of a lens that subs quite well for it on crop. The FA* 80-200 is however a fabulous bit of glass. I was surprised to see it render as well or better than the DA* 200 I own.

A great little pairing would be an FA 24-90 f3.5-4.5 and an F or FA 80-200 f4.7-f.6 - both very capable lenses, won't break your back or your bank.
I second the FA 24-90 suggestion above. Excellent coatings and a lightweight wonder. The 24 wider end of the zoom is more important than the 90 end and so in some ways this is more versatile than the 28-105 (though this a lovely new lens). For the long zoom, I use a 80-320 which is also ok. Not sure even the modern lenses max out the sensor of the K1 or K-1 ii.

I second this suggestion also. The FA* 80-200 is just a special lens. Not a low cost option though. I have been offered more for that lens than any other at swaps. Can’t part with it.

I have 6 3D printed baffles on my desk right now. The same design used in the Home page article. Someone wanted some and never back to me.

I have the K-1 and really have no intention in getting the DFA 15-30, 24-70, or the DFA*70-200. I have a Tamron 70-200. That lens is simply the best bang for buck out there in 70-200 range. I had a copy of the Sigma 70-200 with OS but I sent it back. Too big and heavy. The Tamron can actually fit nicely in my backpack. If you do not need weather sealing and can live with screwdrive, it is a great choice. The DFA 28-105 is simple no brainer. If have a K-1 and use zooms just get one. The Tamron 28-75 is another option and one of the few you can still buy new. Since I have the 28-105 I see no real point in it for me. Sigma made a few 24-70 lenses. I recently saw a few copies go extremely cheap. I purchased a older Sigma 24-60 f2.8 that I found online for $145. It is not the greatest nor the worst. Stopped down a little it does pretty decent. The DA*60-250 is just fantastic on the K-1. Since getting the K-1 it hardly sees the K3. There are alot of options out there unless you want to buy new. Then your options are quite limited.

DFA 28-105, it's a great piece of kit that I take with me almost anywhere, from travel to more dedicated landscape photography outings.

The Tamron 28-75 and 70-200 are f2.8 standard, small for what they are, have good IQ and can be picked up at low cost second hand.

The Sigma 70-200 can also be picked up relatively cheaply, but is bigger and may need its firmware and mount updated by a Sigma dealer.

The 28-105 has been promoted by Adam amongst others as a low cost substitute for the 24-70. If your shooting style is stopped down when at a normal length, and 28 is wide enough, then sure, why not?

Norm those are available. I bought a 3-D printed one from a forum member. Took me maybe an hour to make the swap and that was going slow and careful. It has worked fine for me.

One answer is to not buy the K-1 - stay APS-C.

^This. The FA135 is tiny, fast, and very nice. A 200mm prime might be even better - the fast, silent, weather-sealed DA*200 is often reasonably priced second hand. Add maybe a F or FA series wide prime and a fast fifty and you're set.

I tried the DA 50 mm f1.8 ($150 CAD) on a K-1 in the store but forgot to switch from auto crop mode so I am not sure if the image circle on this lens actually goes full frame or not. On this forum's review it says no but in this thread it says yes it does work full frame.

Anyway, why not expand on the concept from this thread and build a thread or a group or whatever the structure covering all the lenses where folks are making or have made specific direct comparison decisions. Someplace where a member could say "I bought Lens B for only 50% of the cost of Lens A, but it delivers 90% of what Lens A can do and here is why (with examples)."

Yes I was thinking along the same lines. One alternative to K-1ii + DFA 24-70 f2.8 + DFA 70-200 f2.8 would be K-P + DA*16-50 f2.8 + DA*50-135 f2.8. A lot cheaper and a lot lighter for similar coverage. Not everyone's cup of tea of course but a package to consider.

I have no intent of hijacking your thread, but I was reading the thread and thought: IDEA!

As a retired teacher, I don't always (mostly never) have the money to buy the primo lens of any size or type. So I am always looking for alternatives – especially alternatives where the quality difference is not near as great as the price difference. And I amcsure I am not the only one with these constraints.

Just a thought.

My apologies for the interruption.

Don
Love the idea.

So would this baffle work on the 16-85 lens also? That would be too easy.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and opinions.
Food for thought and also reading the user reviews of the lenses mentioned.
I wish they made the 16-85mm for the K1
