July 20th

I received confirmation from my pusher that the FA* 50/1.4 will be available on July 20th. What I don't know is if that is the day I can have it or the day that Ricoh will begin shipping from Asia, or when they will start shipping from local distributors.
I was quoted a list price of Can$1600.00, I expect the actual retail will be in the $1400.00 range.

The UK pre-order price is GBP£1,199, which - at the current GBPCAD exchange rate - is CAD$2,079!! Even at the list of $1,600 it would be a bargain, but $1,400 would be a steal...

I didn’t phrase that quite right. My pusher tends to sell to me at a lower mark up than they do for people who haven’t spent the hundred grand or so that’s I’ve spent in their store. I’m hopeful that I won’t be spending full retail.

Yup, and by comparison this lens is much more affordable

One small step for Pentax, one giant leak for my wallet?

I have to decline the K-1ll upgrade (not a huge sacrifice) and move some things out of ‘stored - unused’ first, but I think this lens will find its way into my bag. Partly just to support Pentax because I can.

I plan to buy new every D FA* lens they release, whether I need them or not, and sell off anything I don’t use to afford them. Time to do the latter part of ‘Buy - Try - Sell’.

I'm declining the upgrade as well. The K1 meets my needs, the upgrade isn't giving me anything I can't live without.
The 50mm is my favourite do so length on full frame so for me this lens is pretty much a must have as it is the first made for digital fast standard from Pentax.
My understanding from talking to the rep, who also represents Sigma, is that this new 50 is a category killer.

That’s exciting news from the street.

Double upgrade for me. I'm optimistically confident that we will be given more control of the accelerator in the future.

I have the following standard primes in my bag or around the house somewhere, 43/1.9, A50/1.2, K & M variants of 50/1.4s, Da50/1.8, FA50/1.7, FA50 Macro /2.8 and a K55/1.8

I reckon the K's are safe, 43 is safe, I'm presuming the Macro will hold its own but the A50/1.2, M50/1.4, FA50/1.7 and DA50/1.8 are on their way away.

I can see my way into having sets of 3 lens which I will use for assigned roles.

Macro and closeup = Zeiss 2.8/25, FA50/2.8 and A100/2.8
Tourist and street = 31/1.8, 43/1.9, 77/1.8
Being a brand ambassador (unofficial) in the Cork area of Ireland for the latest in Pentax technologies and knowing that I have extra pressure on me to be that bit better because I have no excuse equipment wise as I have biggest, baddest, bestest, FF and 50mm combo on the market for under €10K = DFA*50/1.4

July 17th is my birthday

As of this morning I’ve sold 14 nice film cameras at an average of $80 each (clearly at a loss cash on cash) to order the 50. I had the dealer (who doesn’t carry PENTAX) send the money to my PayPal account and ordered the lens from B&H through the Forum link - so I’m in.

Proceeeding with Ricoh’s Plan, and I am Happy.

Yeah. I have three LX bodies and a cherry black MX that I should probably think about selling. I’m pretty sure I have an MZ-5 around here someplace that probably has less than twenty rolls put through it. I doubt if it’s worth much.

I just put a bunch of lenses on my side table - duplicate FA Limiteds, K300/4, DFA100 Macro, some nice Tak’s, most of the M’s, all the 645 stuff, etc, a GR with accessories, an MX-1 - lot of stuff I never use. I’m headed to storage to get the boxes and such. If it isn’t in my Manual Focus lens list or one of a few FA’s that I use - out it goes.

Selling is work.
