Pentax superior coating technology

I think this is a great piece of detail information on coating technologies. Otherwise there is little about all this on photo forums.

QuoteQuote:
So what is the effect of the nano-coated ABC II film? I have to say that Pentax is really the only one in the field of coating. The refractive index of air is 1.003, and the closer the refractive index of the coating surface is to air, the better the effect of eliminating the reflection and the higher the transmittance. Multi-layer coating design requires high and low refractive materials to be used together, but there is no major breakthrough in low refractive materials.

From before World War II to the present, the refractive index has been maintained at 1.38.

The appearance of nano-coating significantly reduced the refractive index of the material.

The average refractive index of Canon's SWC coating was 1.34;

the average refractive index of Nikon NANO coating was 1.25, the light reflectance was 0.5%;

the average refractive index of Pentax HD coating was 1.24;

Pentax ABC coating has an average refractive index of 1.15 and a light reflectance of only 0.02%.

The refractive index of ABC II is not officially announced. It only means that the 0° angle light reflectance is reduced to almost 0%. Obviously, The refractive index of ABC coating is so low that it is not at the same level as other coatings! While ABC II is above ABC, it is said that compared to the first generation, it is said that the void ratio has been improved. It is said that a better crystallization method has been found to improve the film forming technique (it is said that this does not exclude Pentax self-promotion, After all, ABC is now in the hands of HOYA, and Pentax has to come up with something more powerful than you).

Very interesting !
Does this ABC/ABCII "actively used" on the newer DFA lenses ?

Thanks for sharing this.

That was a good find. The translation made it occasionally hard to follow, but there was plenty to take in otherwise. None of the photos or graphics accompanying the article would load for me, even on the original Chinese page. Interesting comment about Hoya having the original Aerobright Coating. Nonetheless, the technology is something for Pentax users to be pleased about.

Whenever I read or hear ‘Hoya’ my blood pressure goes up*.

Interesting, (and colorful), read, thanks for posting. Pity the images don't load, but the playful translation makes the whole read
quite an experience. I think my favorite nonsensical passage is:

"The focus ring is a hard bump (evil children's shoes on their own wall) rubber,"

I will never view a textured focus ring the same way again.

Sounds like something from a J-Horror film

My response is more nuanced:

Hoya made the Q system reality, while Ricoh is just letting it wither.

Thread relevance: Ricoh didn't bring HD, let alone ABC II, to the Q lenses.

I think he and others are mainly upset with Hoya for gutting the company, leaving very little of the original Pentax team and none of the medical section.

That I understand: it's the way the corporate world works.
But I have to give Hoya their due when I see their name on an original Q.

Ok. Assuming they had anything to do with it.

They released it, which is more than Ricoh did for the 09 Telephoto Macro!

That's not so hard to understand. After reading the entire article, the Devil is the author, so Satan is referring to the hard rubber soles of his kids shoes that they have scuffed up their bedroom walls with. Rubber tough enough to survive a full day's worth of climbing the walls in Hell? I'm still trying to figure out what BB is, as in having to listen to an official present BB from Ricoh Imaging before getting my hands on the lens.

Good point but all these decisions are based on whether there is money to be made or not.
