HD DA 40/2.8 video review - what do You wanna see?

Hi Folks,

I and my friend are planning to record the review of HD DA 40/2.8 in real world usage and samples and later on post on YouTube. We have a base scenario for a video but we would like to know if You have any suggestions about what do You want to see.

The tests will be executed on a K-3 with the latest firmware. If You have any sugestions, please feel free to share Your thoughts!

All best,

Sounds like a good idea. I understand that the optical design is similar to the old SMC Pentax M 40mm 2.8, and that it the HD DA 40/2.8 Limited covers full frame quite successfully. It would be worth mentioning this in the review and if you can get your hands on a K-1 or K-1ii. It would be interesting to compare the wide angle this gives on full frame camera in comparison to effective focal length of 60mm on the crop sensor K-3.

40mm is almost a portrait length on aps-c, so some head shots wide open

Yeah, we are fully aware of this, therefore we don't own the K-1 (yet).

We will try to find the 40/2.8 M version somewhere in the city to have it also as an option.

60mm equiv. for a FF - we can try that also, thanks!

As for the first episode, we want to put the costs as low as possible. If You will like it, we will for sure consider renting and making another video, this time focusing on the behaviour on FF.

That makes sense. Now the real meaty question - what are you filming it on? When you show us shots of the K-3 with the HD DA 40 - what will be taking the video?

Think the DA 40mm f/2.8 is a different optical formula than that of the old M 40mm f/2.8 lens. The old lens is very good, though not as good as the modern DA version.

We will be shooting it on Sony A6300 with Sigma 16/1.4 C, shots from 40/2.8 HD (samples) will also be presented with basic exif data as camera model nam, aperture (RAW exported to JPEGS) with only an exposure correction.
