D-fa 50 1.4

Well, I ordered a 50 mm lens that appears to weigh as much as my house, and is only slightly smaller. I can't wait! : )

In all seriousness, I'm both excited and slightly nervous. We will see if it actually ships on the 21st like the order page said it would...

Congratulations on your purchase!
Judging by the specs, the price, the sample images and all background information available, you made a sound decision

Congratulations!!

I completely understand your excitement and nervousness, but I suspect only the former is justified. By all accounts, you've bought what promises to be one heck of a lens...

Do let us know what you think of it once you've tried it out?

Well I'm envious and please do post some pictures once you get it!

Even though its big and heavy and therefore might not be in my back all of the time, its somehow calling to me. Lets see how long I can resist...

If anyone wants to run a book on that, I'll take the short dates

It's not about resisting, it's about when. I'm going to wait for the initial shipments to make it to those that pre-ordered. Then I'll get mine. The wait is the hardest part.

Congratulations... It looks like a new benchmark in lens making from Pentax that also carry a start mark on it. So I am sure you will be delighted.

But I don't like to wait. So I will wait until it is in steady stock. For me, having bought and not received is more exhausting than not having bought and not received.

I got me one of them, and I love it. Great for portraiture. The aperture range gives greater control over depth of field - you don't necessarily want to use f/1.4 for most shots, but when you close it down a bit, you don't get the same negative effects you would if the blades of the iris couldn't get out of the way enough as on a lens with less aperture range.

Can't wait to see what you'll do with yours, eh?

I also think that it isn't necessary to push the lens to its limit all time
