Any idea how it compares to the older SDM, maybe like the *55?
That will be first in my order of business when I get my copy. Add the A50/1.2 into the mix too (with respect to image quality, not AF speed of course!).

And the FA50/2.8 macro, assuming you have one?

...which I don't.

Perhaps I could include the FA 43/1.9, and maybe the DFA 645 55/2.8 on the 645Z? Neither will compete for shallow depth of field though.

Looks really nice.

Great that Pentax was able to release this during the summer months in the Northern Hemisphere. It's always tough when they release gear in January, because somehow all of the photos then have a gray-ish quality that leaves something to be desired.

Of course it is different for all of those non-existent people who live "down under..."

Thanks a lot for sharing those photographs. I'd have one question: how silent is the lens? If I understood correctly, it doesn't have an aperture lever, so no zippp when switching on the K1?
Compared to my other lenses, pretty much absolutely silent. A small whisper.

Thank you for nice pictures. Could you do full height and torso portraits at f1.4 and post here? Thank you
That might take longer. My wife is out of town and Iím not a ďcan I take your pictureĒ guy. Itís definitely sharp wide open, but of course it wonít have the complete background blur for that compared to a longer lens.

Since Pentax Australia has none in stock at the moment, my bank balance is safe for the moment.

On the other hand, Iím a little surprised at your comment about the AF being (I presume, comparatively) slow on this lens. After all the talk about its new ring-motor AF drive, I would have expected it to be fairly quick.
Not slow, I said medium, in between. I think my Tamron 28-70 2.8 might be quicker. Also might be partly perception because of the near silence. Mostly itís probably geared for heavy glass.

I have the FA 50 2.8 macro, which is a great lens I think. This one has nicer contrast and color, better bokeh, and is equally good edge to edge.

The 43 limited also puts up a good fight and I will definitely still use it. It has competitive sharpness stopped down, especially in the center, and good contrast. The new 50 kills it with bokeh, f 1.4 sharpness, and focusing distance.

Yes, I should have this one paid off by the time the twenty comes out. : )

Looking forward to the twenty and maybe 35 (I forget if that's on the roadmap). Also the 85 should be a real treat for those who want it.

I'm also looking forward to my first walk in the rain with this lens. It's my only all weather lens.

Just checking speed and sound again this morning. It's not a slow focuser, it's just not as blazing as something like my 12-40 2.8 on my Olympus EM1.

For sound, there is a light "ch" when you turn the camera on, and then when focusing, zero motor sound, but you can hear the glass make some very light sounds as it changes position.

Fool. Any true Pentaxian knows you need an S1a or SV with a radioactive Tak 50/1.4 for that.

On a more serious note, that is a BIG fifty - looks at least as big as an M135/3.5 to me. Gorgeous as the images are, I think I'll be sticking with my FA50/1.4, thank you very much!

It could be worse had Pentax released a D FA*50/1.2 lens instead!

Guess I fail the hipster test then. Closest I can come is a black Spotmatic with a S-M-C 85mm f/1.8.

Does an autofocus 50/1.2 exist?

Nope the manual focus A50/1.2 was the last one Pentax made. Must have been too expensive/difficult for Pentax to make a 50/1.2 AF lens?

Phil.
