A nice series of shots. Sure to help those considering buying the Fat Fifty! How does it sound when focusing? I have the DA 55 and it squeaks a little while focusing.

He mentioned that it's very silent.

Compared to my other lenses, pretty much absolutely silent. A small whisper.

DFA150-450 vs DFA50?

Get the DFA 150-450 and don't look back. There are many 50's that may not be quite as nice as the new Fat Fifty, but there's only 1 DFA150-450. It is a beast to carry around, however.

Yes I'll be getting the 150-450 first. I think I'd rather a wider than 50mm. A FF 20mm would be nice...

I really hope the price of the FA 43/1.9 drops now that the 50 1.4* has been released.

The 43 is the least expensive of the FA Limiteds, so I suspect not.

I do not get the hype. If f/1.4 and AF is needed then sure. Otherwise 50mm makro-planar rules the kingdom at 1/2 - 2/3 of the price. And that is native K-mount version. And it weights about half in its FULL METAL JACKET.
I think you've summarized this lens quite well. It is for people who (rightly or wrongly) think they need auto focus and want an f1.4 lens that has excellent edge sharpness. If you don't need those things then you can save a lot of money. I agree with Big Mack, I haven't seen a lot of hype (to me hype is buzz coming from Ricoh itself). What I do see is a lot of photographers who have purchased this lens and seem pretty happy with its performance.
