FA 100 f/3.5 macro?

Anyone have experience with the FA 100 f/3.5 macro? A local shop has a used one for $195, it looks good and works and they rate at 9++, but I know nothing of the lens and if this is a fair price.
Thanks,
FHPhotographer

If it's in good shape, I'd say that's a very good price.

That lens is very good performer, almost identical to D FA 100mm macro at the same aperture f3.5 and above.

I think it is a re-badged Vivitar (or some other brand....can't remember); optically it's pretty nice, but the build quality is just so-so......but you could not ask too much for a lens at this price, .

It's a Cosina, actually.

Photozone has a review:

Exactly what was mentioned above: Cosina made, same as Vivitar, just does not come with 1:1 adapter. I did however used often with Hoya +2 filter for 1:1 results or about.

Optically - great lens, sharp, great colors and contrast. Built quality - well, it's all plastic-fantastic, but very usable focus ring still...

This was my first "real" macro lens, loved it, only reason for selling was getting DFA 100mm.

At a reasonable price, I wouldn't think twice buying it!

D

Thanks. It's badged as Pentax SMC FA, and it "looked" different than the Cosina pictured at photozone, but I need to look at it again; I am probably mis-recollecting.

In any case, if it is the Cosina, then they seem to be asking too high a price and I'll see what I can do and report back,

Take a closer look, colors/badging a little different, but shape is exactly the same:

Pentax Lens Review Database - 100mm F3.5 Macro

Price - mine was purchased new from Lester Dine last year $149. Sold it here for the same price not too long ago...

Pentax FA 100 3.5 Macro

I have found the sharpness and optical quality to be very good. It is very light but as such it may not be very rugged. I will use it as long as it holds out for the optical quality.
