A Fat Fifty Thread by Wheatfield.

Have a look at these.
I continue to be impressed by this lens. Which is good on several levels.
The one with the frogs and the gate latch are image stacks.
Cute pet pictures are always nice, and mine are no different.
And finally, a lettuce bed. It's hard to tell what's in focus and what isn't.

Nice captures. The new lens appears to be working well for you.

Thanks for posting another excellent series Bill. If this quality of image keeps up, the lens nickname will have to be lengthened to " Fabulous Fat Fifty !! "

I always said I won't buy that lens because it's a fifty... now the more images I see the more tempting it is.

Thanks for sharing. Love the detail coming through on the first image with the frogs.

Thank you for sharing. But I think, almost every 50mm lens is good round f5.6. Please show more pictures from f1.4 to f4. That is the disciplin where the new 50 has to prove.

In modern parlance, it might have to be re-named the fully filthy phat fifty.

Very encouraging. Can't wait!

Actually, many fast "fifties" (like the DA*55 and FA43) can exhibit rather noisome bokeh stopped down a bit. This new lens is exceptionally smooth in that context, and has already amply demonstrated its qualities wide open elsewhere.

It’s a lot of fun if you like pointing your camera at stuff to see how pretty it will look, which is definitely part of the hobby for me. Nice shots!

Makes me really look forward to other star lenses.

Nice shots and handsome hound! Just out of curiosity do you remember how many shots you used in the two stacks?

I won’t be up to the capacity of this lens. Clearly you are - these are great.

The one with the frogs was 25 images, the gate latch was 22.

I'm just a hack with a camera. No reason why you shouldn't get better results than me.

The bokeh stays nice and smooth no matter what aperture is used. I presume that is what the rounded aperture blades are doing. I'm finding it's best working aperture is f/5.6, it's close to best sharpness at that, I haven't decided if f/8 is better or not, if it is, it's not by much, depth of field is sufficient especially with stacking, and the out of focus rendering is still like melted butter.
