F16 vs. f1.4 DFA* 50

One to show a shot from several feet away at f1.4. There is a bit of distracting bright blurry driftwood in the background. It was not easy to focus perfectly on the dog's face. Live view worked best. Then a simple shot to show the star effect at f16.

A great lens that if used with a bit of caution can produce great images. Nice shot and great dog!

The 100% crop looks really nice, this does look like it will be a nice walkabout lens.

Even though I shoot APSC, am I going to have to get another job so I can pay for my LBA?

nice torture test for the lens. There is a slight amount of fringing here, it can only be seen in the 100% crop - but I can think of lenses Pentax has made* that would have done far worse considering the extreme contrast..

*The SMCP-FA 77mm f/1.8 limited springs to mind, that dogs nose would have been fringed with purple.

Now, I have to search the forum for a comparison of the FA 85 the DFA 50. Trying to figure out which toy will burn the next hole in my wallet.

That doesn't sound very good

Three issues were at play. Very low depth of field, a very dark face with bright white fur in other areas, and typical dog movement. In this case I had better luck focusing on her eye with live view. Sometimes contrast detect can be more precise.
