I'm not sure what kind of arrangement Pentax and Tokina have set up but hopefully this brings in some revenue for Ricoh and they put that back into the camera business.

I have the Voigtlander 58mm f1.4. It is no slouch either. But no way am I going to buy the Pentax DFA50 at those prices. Be nice to see a comparison though if anyone has both.

Wouldn't have thought they'd be close, to be honest, Essdubbya.

Photozone really liked the Voigtlander back in 2008 but noted:

"Unsurprisingly the lens shows the weakest performance at f/1.4 - the center resolution is already very good here but the borders are soft. The overall contrast level is also quite low at this setting which is actually a little disappointing regarding its name - some may have associated "Nokton" with the famous Noct-Nikkor which is supposed to produce great results straight from the max. aperture (less so at medium apertures). Anyway, at f/2 the contrast increases and the borders recover to good level. A major boost in quality occurs when stopping down to f/2.8."

Nice pics

I like the bokeh - on the D FA* 50/1.4 better. I'll keep my $50 Pentax M 50/1.4 though.

While I see the appeal of the DFA (superb sharpness!) I really liked the f/1.4 shot from the FA - perhaps because of the softness and the glow LOL.

Sad that the DFA 50 1.4 group on flickr has so little photos in it, seems there are a lot more posted around the forum lol. It's a pretty good platform to showcase the lens, I always look at photos on flickr before buying anything (as part of the research).

It is not exactly an old lens and the number of flickr enabled pentax photogs with the lens who bother to tag it may be small.
