Portrait test with DFA 50 1.4, at 1.4

My daughter was kind enough to pose in some really bad light while I snapped off a few shots. The bright windows in back is normally something I would avoid. Same for the bad incandescent kitchen lighting. This is not cropped.

Here's a version from Lightroom at f 1.4. I adjusted white balance, the curve, contrast, used "portrait" profile from Adobe, and used the brush to brighten her face, reduce contrast and boost shadows. The first version with the brighter background has the lens profile applied.

That's impressive performance at f/1.4. Very impressive indeed.

Looks like having the eye in focus is not a problem even at f/1.4

Wow! At f/1.4 this is amazing! In the cropped huge blowup of the eye there is still so much detail that is very clear, skin pores, etc- incredible!

This shows Ricoh should hurry up and release the DFA85 for portrait shooters. Spectacular.

Your daughter has a very similar expression to mine, in the unlikely scenario I'm actually able to take her picture!

Seriously though thats an impressive result - especially given the less than ideal lighting.
