?????

Your lens has no electrical contacts through which to do a firmware update. This is obvious to you because you have the lens in hand. It would not be obvious to the poor customer service representative who does not have this lens in their list of supported or recent product. You got a canned, though accurate response. No, they cannot help you. Ricoh/Pentax would have given a similar response.

Steve,

My apologies. The statement on the "firmware" issues was related to earlier threads regarding the canned response. In fact, the firmware statement was one of the reasons I posted the response in the first place, as I found it ironic and amusing.

Yes, you obviously knew more about the lens than they did.

Yes, every service center around the globe or zone/district is different. There was a discussion on another thread about a problem with the LA office misredirecting packages to the wrong PO, but in general how a good service they provided.
I've been amazed by the service and competence of the official Sigma Italy repair center.
On top of that, they actually sell available spare parts to "unofficial" repair shops.
Not to the ordinary customers, though. Sigma USA does.
Reading about the experiences of some forum users with other maker's customer support, I'm led to believe that Sigma is among the very best, under this point of view
