I repeat this frequently. I don't find this to be easy to see at a level that is obvious. I do agree that failing sdm can slow down so it gives this impression. I haven't seen any detailed studies showing a good lens with working sdm is significantly slower than screw drive on the same lens. But I have seen bad sdm that is already sluggish compared to screw drive many times.
And you can let the OP know that you will do the conversion if needed for 30.00 Uncle V.
With a KP versus an older body it may be a bit faster as a screw drive lens since the KP got a stronger and faster motor.

That was what they said about the k3. But later data suggested it wasn't a stronger motor it was a better autofocus system that was more decisive. But I don't have a KP. And I can convert the lens, or help point people to the right threads to convert the lens if desired.

My copy is slow but very reliable. (Not screw drive converted). The IQ is stunning. Here is a shot from yesterday:

Not sure if relevant/accurate, but Bitdefender reported a phishing attempt when I clicked on the excellent image for a better look.

I've had my DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 for some 10 years, and have used it on a number of Pentax DSLRs, all with exceptional results. Knock on wood- the SDM keeps right on ticking so far. Mine has very accurate AF, and while not the fastest, not too slow either. It is great that the seller is near you so you can see it for yourself.

It has a wonderful design too. It is very compact for what it is, and the length and balance do not change either when zooming or when focusing. Nothing rotates or moves when in AF mode. Also, the AF/MF switch is right by where your thumb would be when holding the lens and camera while shooting, which makes "quick-shift" MF touchup a rather redundant feature. This sounds like a great deal to me! If it checks out as advertised, I think you will love this lens!

I have to think that's a false positive since it is going where it says it should go.

Well, update:

I decided I didn't quite have the budget for it this month, and that I might buy it later when I'm more flush.

Instead I won two auctions for the following:

Pentax KM, Pentax 35/3.5, Pentax 55/1.8, Pentax 135/3.5 (all original "K" series). hood, filters for all lenses, bag, manual, some rings. Listed as mint condition, will pick them up from the post tomorrow. Total $100.

Also a Pentax ME with Pentax-A 35/2.8. Cost $50.

I assume those are good deals.

I think that both are great deals, especially the kit of the KM + K lenses. The K 35/3.5 is a very nice lens.
